There are so many options when it comes to headsets, that can vary from the under $100 low end, to the eye wateringly high $800.

The latest Logitech G Astro A50 X sits in that eye watering price range, so the question is, is it worth the money?

The Logitech G Astro A50 X is an interesting beast, as it isn’t just a headset but also works as a HDMI switcher.

As such there are a lot of cables to juggle your way around at first, but once finished your PS5 and Xbox Series X can be plugged into the headsets dock, and then the dock connects to your TV.

Once you have gone through the rigamarole of setting it up, the benefits are immediate.

With the simple press of a button you can change the headset and TV feed to flick from your Xbox to your PS5.  This is some stealthy serious benefits because despite TV’s having plenty of HDMI ports these days, once you have a SkyBox, a Firestick, a Switch and some consoles in, you can run out of HDMI ports fast.

One thing I have liked a lot about Logitech’s high end headsets are their docks.

Having to remember to plug headsets into a USB cable regularly means I run out of juice mid gaming session.  With the dock, when you put it down it is charging, so that’s seriously awesome.

I didn’t always find it the easiest to connect the headset on the dock, but there is a clear orange light to let you know if you got it right.

But a charging dock and HDMI switching isn’t just what you want to buy this headset for right?

You probably want to hear your games with it too. Well great news, the sound quality in this beast is amazing.  Seriously, between the quality of the mic and the sound, this might be the best headset I have used to date.

Whether you are jamming an action packed game, or watching a movie, I just cannot overstate how excellent the sound in the G Astro A50 X is.

The other major question is the comfort. If you’re jamming some long gaming sessions then you will need to be comfortable during it. The cups have a ridiculously soft foam that feels fantastic on your ears. Instead of opting for the leathery types that some headsets use, these beauties have a nice fabric covering which is much nicer, especially in the heat.

The one thing I would note is I would be careful buying these second hand as they wind up holding onto some skin flakes, as I found on this loaned from Logitech headset.

When it comes to style, it’s pretty similar to previous Logitech G Astro A50 X series headsets.

The distinct cylinder style up the sides looks pretty much identical to my older A50’s, and the cups look slightly cooler. Obviously, I can’t guess how long the headset will last, but given it’s similar feeling build, I suspect it will be as sturdy as my older A50’s which have been going strong for a few years.

The serious question is, should you get one.

It is a serious question, because at $800 (NZD) we are talking the entire cost of a new console, or some major component upgrades for your PC.

And honestly, if you can swing it, this headset is worth it. But if pulling $800 on a headset is stretching it for you, there are much cheaper ones that are good enough.

Astro’s A30 series is back from a galaxy far, far away with a very Special Edition Mandalorian model.

Produced by Logitech within their G Series, the Astro A30 Wireless was first announced back in October last year (2022).

Now having embraced the Force the truly wireless full head sized gaming headset gives you two ways to connect, direct bluetooth or via the 2.4GHz USB dongle.

The Astro A30 Mandalorian Special Edition allows you to mix your wireless connection too. If you’re wanting to pump up the jam on Spotify while gaming, you can. The mixed connectivity uses Logitech own LIGHTSPEED technology and can have a couple of connections going simultaneously to the likes of connecting up to your PC via the supplied dongle and pairing up to your mobile via bluetooth.

The model I reviewed is for Xbox or PC, however you can connect to mobile (Android or iOS) but I recommend downloading the app to get the most out of the Astro A30.

if you want to wire yourself in there is a 3.5mm port.

Audio is top shelf driven by 40mm drivers. Deep rumbles, atmospheric environmental sounds and high pitched whizzes of bullets as the pass near you.

The boom mic is removable, so if you want to simply rock out, or game without chatter you can. There’s tactile buttons on the right ear cup and a USB-C charging port.

Battery life is is close to top range, coming in at around 27 hours. I’ve exceeded this already, with around 4 to 5 hours of gameplay in just over a week, daily, on a single full charge and the headset is still going strong.

This headset is essentially an Astro A30, with customisable ear cup plates, or tags, that clip in to either side of the headphone. What I suspect is that we may see different tags being released in future so you can tailor your Astro A30 to something more you.

The Astro A30 Mandalorian Special Edition of course has Mando tags and a rather elite looking carry case too.

With a sound output that would please the Rebels and voice clarity for any galactic adventure, the Astro A30 Mandalorian Special Edition is a must for any serious gamer and Star Wars fan.

By removing the keyboard and using the rear flip stand i can play games and of course have Netflix and Shudder marathons.

The Ultimate Ears HyperBoom is larger than what we have seen previously from the Boom range and encompasses a near 360 degree sound.

With a ‘Super Massive Dynamic’ array of speakers and woofers builtin behind the black mesh you’re going to get the ultimate audio experience anywhere.

Boasting a non-stop 24 battery life, the HyperBoom can also be paired with other Ultimate Ears Boom speakers in close proximity to create an environment of endless playlist streaming.

Aptly named, the HyperBoom goes beyond loud. I tried this at home, in a closed room and in my lounge which is open plan.

While the lounge certainly was more spacious the effect was almost the same, once I got up to just over quarter volume I could hear the tinkering of plates and cups in the kitchen, two rooms away, as they vibrated. In a closed room the windows rattled.

You can also share the love. The Ultimate Ears Hyperboom allows you connect up to 4 devices, wirelessly or cabled and it also features as a charge station for your smartdevice. This does of course have impact on the speakers battery life.

HyperBoom is a beast but with a higher than usual price tag. It’s the center of any party or social gathering and successfully delivers audio in every direction.

Center it at yours and have the best of your own music, whether local playlist or streaming to have your party started right.

Logitech know a thing or two about producing peripherals for PC. They have been doing it since 1981.

Their G Series are top shelf gaming devices designed for the serious PC Gamers.

STG received a G512 keyboard recently to review, so we gave it work out.

Firstly after upacking you’ll come across two corded USB plugs. One is for the keyboard itself and the other to power the builtin USB hub at the lower top of the unit.

As soon as the G512 is plugged in you will be treated to a dazzling multi-coloured RGB lighting array.

To gain full function oif the lighting, which can be fully customed to your liking, or to create settings for differing games, you’ll need to download the Lightsync App from Logitech.

The interface of Lightsync is super easy as you setup differing custom lighting effects or if you can’t be bothered doing this – choose pre-existing ones.

Much like their superior G560 PC Speakers – the G512 wired keyboard create illumination to get your gaming prowess in to turbo mode.

Additional WSAD keys are supplied in the box and each mechanical inner sprung Romer-G Tactile key has a resounding and satisfying click when pressed. In actual fact you can opt between three differing key types; Choose from three distinct mechanical switches: Romer-G Tactile, Romer-G Linear and Romer-G Tactile.

For gaming the G512 wired keyboard is superior, however for usual tasks I found it is a little sensitive on it’s key strokes.

Nonetheless – the G512 keyboard is fully responsive with the ability to setup macros and shortcuts to your gamer hearts desire. Sturdily constructed, weighted so it’s not likely to slide about on your desk and a brushed aluminium finish.

If you are in to your PC gaming and / or eSports – the G512 is a serious weapon to have in your arsenal.

It’s a very true statement that correct lighting makes the perfect gaming experience.

Whether you have your own gaming room or den or simply at a desk, setting the tone for your PC based battles can give you much needed edge and focus.

Manufacturers of PC and console gaming peripherals; Logitech, know this and they have gone the extra mile and then some for their newly released G560 PC Speakers.

A simple concept that goes along way in the PC audio market – and a much needed one at that. What’s more, you get optimum power at little footprint. The desktop speakers and vertical sub take up little room.

Button and control placement’s are good too. Volume and G-Sync are located at the top of the Right desk speaker. Bluetooth, lights toggle and power at the rear of the same speaker.

The biggest attraction point for the G560‘s is the RGB lighting.

With multi-coloured LEDs at the rear of each of the two satellite desk speakers and additional LED lighting within the side stands the G560’s will pulse, flash and flicker to your audio or on standby.

The lighting effects can be controlled via Lightsync – Logitech’s downloadable G Spark and Gaming Software Apps for Windows 10. Within these you can set the flow, style and hue’s for whatever your heart desires. It is also in here where you can tweak the audio settings, including virtual 5.1 or 7.1 surround. Being a 2.1 channel set up, when either of the virtual audio selections are chosen, you’d almost be convinced that you had more speakers than just the three.

The speakers themselves, well, just amazing. The two satellite speakers connect to the sub, which drives the audio experience via colour coded VGA-like connectors, and supplies the power.

There are three ways in which you can connect up the G560‘s.

Bluetooth to any Bluetooth enabled device, USB and the old but stable 3.5mm connection.

I tried all three connections and found the USB and Bluetooth to give a better audio experience as far as clarity and bass. In saying that, The G560 allows simultaneous connections.

For example, my Alexa Dot is connected to the G560 via Bluetooth, while my laptop is connected via USB. I do not need to fuss about with disconnecting one in order to connect the other.

I can and I do have both seamlessly working together. This gives me superior audio freedom. I can chat away to Alexa while playing audio from my PC. Or I can command Alexa to play something from Spotify while I have a game running. Giving me the best of both worlds.

Superior audio is not complete without rumbling bass. Of Course.

The G560 unit comes with a floor standing 6.5 inch Sub naturally enhances the two desktop speakers, belting out your gaming exploits or playlists at a wall vibrating 240 watts maximum (120 watts RMS).

The Logitech G560, from their PC gaming G Series are, in my opinion, the supreme ultimate for PC audio currently available.

A setup you will have zero regrets having purchased.

For myself I found it easier to use both plugs and then make use of the hub on the keyboard to save reaching around the back of my RIG to plug and unplug devices.

Windows 7 through to 10 will instantly recognise it. It is truly plug and play.

Being minimalistic in its design and appearance the G413 is the gaming keyboard for gamers who like the finer things, for those that like the chic without losing functionality. Whats more the weight of the peripheral is enough so that it will not slide around your desk during intense key mashing phases – even when propped up on it’s rear stands. Priced at around $150.00 NZD it will compliment any gaming den or desktop and optimise your dark room playing sessions.

The brushed metallic look metal base is that of a high calibre weapon and in the gaming sphere that is exactly what the G413 is.

Logitech G Series do it again, with the utmost precision.

Gaming on a PC, you are only as good as the peripherals that you have at your disposal. Logitech know this and have known this for years, being at the top of the accessory market.

The G903 Gaming Mouse proves this. The 11 Button ambidextrous mouse boasts full customisation of the button functions via the Logitech Gaming Software aswell as up to five setting for DPI, which be changed on the fly.

With a 1 Millisecond response rate the ‘Lightning Speed’ peripheral is not only ergonomically comfortable in the hand it glides around pretty much all surfaces without any hand or wrist strain.

The G903 does come with a circular 10 gram weight, which can be removed, or swapped out with a rechargeable battery. The mouse is wireless, unless you are charging it via the supplied USB cable.

Then there’s the Power Play surface (mouse pad) which is sold separately but designed to work with the G903 exclusively.

We tried with the Power Play pad and without, and we managed to get a week and a half out of the G903 before it totally died. It purports to be able to handle up to 32 hours continual use, but we got alot more than that out of a single full charge. This was everyday use, for around 10 hours a day. Superb battery life.

Not only are all buttons on the G903 customizable to your playing or preference but also via the Logitech free download config software you can fine tune to colouring to your tastes.

Should you need to reformat your PC you wont lose your custom settings either. The G903 has on board memory which will retain your customization.

When it comes to PC gaming (and console) it’s not all about the visuals and compelling gameplay.

Audio plays an important part in the immersion of the moment. To really experience and ‘feel’ the action on screen you need that high quality audio to place you in to the game.

Logitech’s G433 is a budgetly priced 7.1 Surround DTS gaming headset with a proprietary built in Pro-G Audio Driver that will do just that, with an army of accessories included.

Designed for both console and PC Gamers the wired G433 is compatible with Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and of course PC.

Super comfortable to wear and with extra ear pads included to get your sizing just right, the wired and flexible headphones with expandable and removable side boom mic will have you belting out commands or quips to your fellow players in no time.

In the box there’s a 3.5mm cable with remote controls for using with your smart device (mobile / tablet) and another set of cabling for PC or console. In addition you will find differing connectors including a USB-C adaptor for Android based mobiles or tablets

Reviewing the unit across all of these different platforms I found PC (with a decent sound card) to be the best.

On smart devices, both Apple and Android there wasn’t really any defining surround sound experience to be had – this I believe is not a fault on the headsets part, more the smart devices themselves and being at the mercy of the audio capabilities on the devices. That said I’d hoped though that the Pro-G would have kicked in and filtered the clarity through to the rumbling of deep bass, but it seemed to just play the audio as it was from the device without any filtering or enhancements.

Console, both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sounded great. Immersion plus while in the game – but it was my Asus Zenbook 3 with the Harmon Kardon audio chipset that made these headphones perform as they should.

I played Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice on PlayStation 4 first. This is a game that needs to be played with headphones in order to get the full benefit of the binaural sound. I thought ‘this is it!’ with the PS4, but when playing Hellblade on PC it was hundred times better and I was fully zoned in.

The G433 is the gaming headset designed to be taken everywhere. It’s diversity in connection abilities will see you using it for personal audio and PC Gaming when on the go. It fits snug and tight and can be worn for hours without any discomfort or the usual and eventual headache from wearing a headset, this I assume is due to its light-weight.

Average audio for personal playlists on smart devices, the G433 is best used for gaming. Priced at under $200.00 NZD the Logitech G433 is your one stop, does all headset.
