Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra, really is the ultra of wearables.

The round 1.47 inch AMOLED face sits within a large rounded square housing making for the Galaxy Watch Ultra to appear larger than it is as well as creating a bigger bezel look.

To the right there’s two tactile buttons and one larger centre rotating button to get you into your apps and varying workout regimes and routines.

Unlike the prior Galaxy Watches the outer bezel of the watch face does not rotate – I can see why from the design point of view, as the Galaxy Watch Ultra is as round as it is square.

Water resistant for up to a depth of 100 meters (including ocean) and built with titanium, the Galaxy Watch Ultra is ready to get rough and tough along with you.

Able to withstand the ocean depths, altitudes of 2,000 meters and temperatures as low as -20 or as high as 55C, you may not survive some of that, but the Galaxy Watch Ultra will keep on ticking.

And if you’re in a jam, take a spill, or just completely lost, the Galaxy Watch Ultra comes with it’s own emergency siren. If you hold down the middle rotating button, aka the ‘Action button’ for a few seconds an alarm will begin, which progressively gets louder. And I do mean louder!

While it’s clear that the Galaxy Watch Ultra has been designed for those who are sports focused and really love the outdoors, it still has all of the smarts health and wellbeing sensors and reports directly from your wrist.

Built on Google’s WearOS, there’s an endless menu of apps that you can install from Google Play as well as customise your watch face.

From stress, heart rate, sleep, temperature and more your vital body stats are recorded by the Galaxy Watch Ultra and synced up to the Samsung Health app on your smartphone.

Take calls handsfree, receive your notifications and swipe around the watch face to go from settings, to menu’s and alerts.

Best of all is the battery life.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra has a 590mAh battery which can give you up to 100 hours in Power Saving mode. This of course depends on your physical regime and how you use the watch as well.

Using the Galaxy Watch Ultra as my daily for the past two weeks I never actually needed to put it in to Power Saving mode. It’s done extremely well.

On first run from the box it ticked over nicely for two days before needing a charge up. On the second and third run it’s survived four to five days on a single charge.

The ideal is a smartwatch that needs minimal charging, and Samsung are getting very close to this with the Galaxy Watch Ultra.

For some, this new wearable is going to seem a little too large, but for those that are sports minded, have physical jobs, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is ready to hit the gravel, scale those heights, go down to those depths and more, all the while being a sturdy reliable coaching mentor and health assistant, at a premium price.

OPPO has unveiled its new flagship smartwatch with a host of industry leading updates: the Watch X.

In the latest addition to its wearable tech line, the leading global smart device brand has incorporated extra-long battery life, as well as ultra-fast charging and its most advanced fitness tracking yet.

Take charge of your health, wellbeing and fitness with Fitbit’s Charge 6.

The small and super light smartwatch utilizes the Fitbit app on Android or iOS to keep track of your daily activities and vitals.

Fitbit (now owned by Google) are absolutely the masters of health wearables, they’re the pioneers and have been doing them for years.

All of this knowledge and experience would mean that you’re going to get a fully accurate experience, right? Well, yes… and not always.

Firstly the watch itself.

It’s slim with a touch 0.86 x 0.58 inch face that nicely curves in to the very bright silicone strap.

To the left is one tactile button. If you’re not using ‘Always on’ for the screen, this button is essentially a wake up the screen. I hardly used it, as the screen will turn on when you raise your wrist.

As mentioned, you absolutely need the Fitbit app to not only connect the Fitbit Charge 6, but also to sync your data.

The Fitbit Charge 6 will keep an accurate track of your steps per day and you can set goals to try and beat. I don’t remember setting a goal in past Fitbit watches I have used and reviewed, but apparently I did – and I’ve never met them. So far.

There’s also a calorie burner, fitness coach, ECG, heart and stress monitor, skin temperature and way, way more.

You can set up alerts for irregular heart rhythm too.

If you’re new to the world of Fitbit, there will be some profile set up for you where you will need to enter in details about yourself, age, weight and height. This is ultimately so the tracker can ascertain vitals and fitness for your age and body type.

But according to my heart stats with the Fitbit Charge 6 my heart stops beating around midday each day. I’d always suspected it did.

The sleep tracker is mostly on point, although it did miss a few nights where it recorded zero sleep. And evidently I do not sleep enough (that’s actually true)

Notifications, are hit and miss. Better on Android (I mean it is Google to Google right?), on iOS you will generally only get SMS alerts, Android almost everything.

Being that the screen is teeny, it’s near to impossible to see any details of said notifications though. But you’ll get them.

An entire week (or more) will see the Fitbit Charge 6 being your health wrist buddy before needing a charge up. Charging time from near-to flat is a little painful. Around 3 hours.

If you forget to juice it up overnight you may want to replan that exercise you were just about to leave the house for.

I’m not using the ‘Always on’ screen, and so far a week and a half in and it’s still going strong with around 50% battery.

The Fitbit Charge 6 was a mixed bag of accuracy and not.

The app is excellent however. It takes you through your vitals and activities in to a granular micro level. There are some functions that you will need a Fitbit Premium sub for though.

From the watch face you can swipe left and right to get a quick snapshot and basic info.

If the Fitbit Charge 6 detects you’re on a walk, it will prompt you to record it. I did this a few times… it doesn’t stop recording when the walk is done though.

In all, the Fitbit Charge 6 is not bulky, a soft and light wear, always good to go and for the most part, keeps everything in check.

If you’re a fitness guru, or simply just want a smartwatch that’s not huge on your wrist and keeps things in check at a budget-friendly price point, the Fitbit Charge 6 will see you right. Mostly.

It’s personable, keeps your health in check and fits like a glove.

Samsung’s newest member to their smart watch range is the 40mm Galaxy Watch6.

Since last year’s iteration it has slimmed down (by a whopping 30%) yet managed to get beefier on reliability and specs.

Wearing the Galaxy Watch6 does feel more natural, infact you almost forget it’s even there on your wrist. It sits nice and flat against your skin and it’s only when it vibrates on a move achievement or a notification received that I’d remember I was wearing it.

The Super AMOLED scratch resistant Sapphire Crystal screen is crisp, sharp and vividly detailed for a 1.3 inch roundel. It is also 20% larger than the previous model.

The outer bezel is near to gone. This said, one of my fav features of the Galaxy Watches, (looking at the Classic models) is the tactile bezel that you can physically turn to swipe between info screens.

Samsung have added a virtual navigation bezel to the Galaxy Watch6, but it is a bit fiddly and more than often you’ll end up pressing the screen when trying to navigate on the outer rim of the watch.

The Galaxy Watch6 has Google’s OS Wear overlayed by Samsung’s own UI and it brings the best of the prior models and adds to the goods.

There’s your body vitals, an ECG, your fitness records with differing workout modes, and sleep monitoring.

For the sleep function, Samsung have now made the back LED (that blinking light that is keeping you in check) invisible, if you place the watch on to Sleep Mode.

The 3 in 1 BioActive Sensor actually does give you much more detailed and deeper insights in to your cardio health. Blood pressure, heart rate and a whole lot more. It will also alert you if it detects anything abnormal.

The Galaxy Watch6 is powered by a Exynos W930 Dual-core 1.4GHz and has 2GB RAM. This has made the smart watch lightning fast, and it is.

Super responsive and super reliable.

Samsung reckons you can get up to 40 hours with the Galaxy Watch6 from a full charge. Or 30 hours with the ‘Always On’ function.

I never got that in the week and a bit of wearing the watch as my daily wrist companion.

But it would get me through an entire day, sometimes the 425mAh battery would last right through until early morning the following day.

Given that I am still rocking a Galaxy Watch4 Classic that can barely survive a full day, the Galaxy Watch6 was fantastic with it’s between charges lifespan.

Durable, the watch is waterproof, dust and sweat proof. Ready to be strapped on with its soft silicone strap and face the day, survive workouts, rock out and keep your vitals in-check every day.

Reading and writing is easier on the 20% larger display, showcasing more text on screen and a larger keyboard – all while maintaining a comfortable size.

A more vibrant, higher resolution display3 boasts a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, coupled with an Always On Display brightness adjustment feature, allowing users to see and do more even under bright sunlight. Powered by the enhanced processor and memory, Galaxy Watch6 delivers smoother and faster interactions3.

Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic come with a 30% slimmer bezel and a 15% thinner rotating bezel respectively, enhancing the beauty of the signature circle frame. WhatsApp makes it easier for Galaxy Watch users to stay connected with friends and family, all without getting out a phone. Starting from this fall, users can stay productive right from their watch with new apps from Google Calendar and Gmail, which will be available on Wear OS. They can also track fitness progress or nutritional data more easily with Peloton and MyFitnessPal updates, and coming soon, enjoy additional streaming options with Audible.

Together with other Samsung devices, Galaxy Watch6 series expands user experiences even further. The upgraded Camera Controller enables remote control of a paired Galaxy Z Flip5 camera to switch modes, angles, and zoom. Samsung Smart TV or Galaxy Tab S9 shows the user’s progress in real time with a guided fitness or mindfulness program on the large screen. Users can also automatically toggle the connection of Galaxy Buds2 Pro between Samsung devices via Auto Switch. Should users happen to misplace their phone, Galaxy Watch6 series can now pinpoint its location through Find My Phone with map support.

Samsung has just announced the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro is shaping health and wellness habits with intuitive insights, advanced features and even more powerful capabilities which includes ECG and blood pressure monitoring.

The new ECG functionality, now allows users the ability to record the heart’s electrical activity of repeated cardiac cycles through the Electrocardiogram (ECG) function, which also includes an Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature proactively monitors heart rhythms suggestive of atrial fibrillation (AFib).

Huawei has just announced the New Zealand launch of its latest device in its acclaimed HUAWEI WATCH GT series: the HUAWEI WATCH GT 3 Pro.

Huawei’s latest flagship smartwatch has recently picked up the EISA Best Smartwatch 2022-2023 Award, and comes with a new interface design, premium materials, an ultra-clear large screen, up to 14 days battery life, ECG tracking and improved water-resistant performance that supports freediving up to 30 metres deep.

The award-winning HUAWEI WATCH GT 3 Pro makes it easy to support a healthy lifestyle, with ECG analysis and TruSeen 5.0+ data monitoring technology that enable accurate heart health measurement, as well as blood oxygen monitoring. The HUAWEI WATCH GT 3 Pro has received a CE-marking for its ECG app, an administrative sign highlighting its compliance with EU safety, health and environmental requirements allowing the service to expand to 33 European countries.

The device has also taken its sporting capabilities to the next level, with an all-new freedive mode in addition to over 100 other workout modes, for a truly bespoke workout experience.
