The organisers have confirmed that the Phase 4 LAN Finals in Paris have been cancelled due to ongoing logistical issues and difficulties securing visas for participating players. Instead, the final matches will be played online, with the broadcast team still hosting live from the Paris studio to maintain production quality.

Why the LAN Finals Were Cancelled

In an announcement shared across Project Blender’s channels, the team expressed regret over the sudden format change.

They explained that challenges around travel arrangements and visa approvals made it impossible to host teams on site. Ensuring fairness and comfort for all players became the priority, prompting the shift to an entirely online conclusion.

What the Updated Phase 4 Schedule Looks Like

Phase 4 kicked off today, with sixteen teams beginning their campaign in a single elimination bracket. The competition features a €40,000 prize pool and includes well known names such as Team Vitality alongside rising amateur rosters.

Originally planned as an offline showdown in Paris, these final two days will now be contested remotely. However, fans will still get a polished broadcast thanks to the casting crew working live from the Paris studio.

Riot Games has dropped some big updates for the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) EMEA Ascension 2025, and it’s set to be the biggest one yet. The headline change? The tournament is expanding from six to eight teams, giving even more organisations a shot at breaking into the top level of VALORANT esports.

This year’s Ascension event will run from 18–26 October in Berlin, hosted at the Riot Games Arena. With the expanded lineup, the tournament will also kick off a day earlier than originally planned. But the real spotlight is on the matches that will decide who earns promotion to VCT EMEA 2026. Instead of just one final, there will now be two best-of-five Ascension games, both played live on stage in front of fans.

A fresh format for Ascension

To fit in the two extra teams, Riot has scrapped the double elimination bracket and introduced a new format. The eight squads will be split into two seeded GSL-style groups, fighting for a place in the all-important qualification matches. The winners of those on-stage clashes will book their spot in the 2026 season, joining the likes of regional giants already locked into the partnered league.

This adjustment keeps the pressure high, since only two teams will still make it through despite the bigger field. For many Challenger teams, this is the one golden ticket into VALORANT’s tier-one ecosystem, making every map played in Berlin that much more intense.

The timing of the update is also no coincidence. With Challengers EMEA Stage 3 starting up soon, squads across the region are already eyeing the chance to prove themselves and chase the dream of promotion. Fans will no doubt be keeping a close watch, especially with recent relegations shaking up the landscape and creating openings for new contenders.

Blender Draft: Pick Carefully, Think Ahead

• Draft 1: No restrictions; full agent pool available.
• Draft 2: Agents used in Map 1 are banned.
• Draft 3: Agents used in Map 2 only are banned.

As a result, there are asymmetrical drafts in which each team must be quick to adapt, change tactics, and dive deeply into their agent pools.

Challengers Call and the Bounty System

Riot’s also introduced the Challengers Call, letting qualified teams choose their opponents in later stages. It’s a twist that brings an extra layer of mind games to the competition.

There’s also a bounty system. Teams that manage to take down higher-tier opponents will be rewarded with bonus cash from the €75,000 prize pool. It’s a cool way to support underdog victories and add real stakes to every match.
