2018 Vodafone New Zealand Music Award Finalist (Best Solo Artist, Best Pop Artist), and Two-time Grammy Award-winning, critically acclaimed New Zealand songstress Kimbra will release SONGS FROM PRIMAL HEART, REIMAGINED on October 26. The EP features acoustic versions of four songs from her acclaimed album PRIMAL HEART.

Fans who pre-order SONGS FROM PRIMAL HEART, REIMAGINED will instantly receive the first track, ‘Black Sky’.

“I’ve always wanted to make an acoustic collection of songs, where I move away from beats and strip things down. I think people find an intimacy in my work when I present it in a more minimal way,” says Kimbra. ”Although I enjoy the use of technology and production, I do have a love for simplicity…. exposing the instrument of the voice. PRIMAL HEART (which is all about getting back to the essence or core of our humanity) seemed like a great record to explore this with.”

PRIMAL HEART was originally produced by both Kimbra and John Congleton. For this new EP, she entrusted the production and arrangement to Norwegian producer, multi-instrumentalist & composer Lars Horntveth of Jaga Jazzist, enabling her to focus solely on her role as a vocalist. It was recorded and mixed by Chris Tabron at Red Bull studios in New York, where Kimbra now resides. With the large studio at their disposal, they were able to record the songs live, with the musicians all in the same room.

Kimbra says, “It was a different process to the layered, stream of consciousness, collaborative and often chaotic way I work on my more produced records. I wanted a simple cast of characters to bring these songs to life in the most minimal, intimate way possible.”

She was joined in the studio by Spencer Zahn on double bass and vibraphone, Zac Tenorio (Arc Iris) on keyboards, Benjamin Lazar Davis Lars on vocals and guitar and Olga Bell (Dirty Projectors) on background vocals. In addition to producing, Lars Horntveth also played a variety of instruments, including saxophone, clarinet and lap steel.

Two-time Grammy Award-winning, critically acclaimed New Zealand songstress Kimbra has released her widely-acclaimed third studio album, PRIMAL HEART, out today on Warner Bros. Records.

The 12-track record makes its debut with early praise from the likes of Interview Magazine, PAPER, and NYLON, with Rolling Stone calling it one of the “most anticipated albums of 2018” and The Independent attesting, “Kimbra’s exploratory ethos has never been so on point.” In support, Kimbra has confirmed additional US tour dates for 2018, including shows with Beck, ODESZA and Son Lux.

Kimbra has quietly spent the past two years assembling the album, self-producing and mixing alongside co-producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Angel Olsen, Explosions In The Sky), among other producers in Los Angeles and New Zealand, and hit-machine Skrillex as co-producer on ‘Top of the World.’

Stripping down Kimbra’s music to bare emotion and heart, the record invites listeners to experience the inherent vulnerability in her voice, conveying raw feeling throughout each song. The new record includes critically-acclaimed singles ‘Everybody Knows,’ ‘Human,’ ‘Version of Me,’ ‘Like They Do On The TV,’ and ‘Top of the World,’ which NPR calls, “an aggressive, confident step forward into the future.”

Kimbra’s voice seeped into the hearts and minds of listeners around the globe in 2012. She dueted with Gotye on the inescapable smash ‘Somebody That I Used to Know,’ which garnered “Record of the Year” and “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance”at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

Moreover, she made history by becoming the third New Zealand singer to win a Grammy. Her debut album VOWS reached number 14 on the Billboard Top 200 and was certified platinum in Australia and New Zealand, yielding hits such as ‘Settle Down’ and ‘Cameo Lover’. She confidently stepped into the spotlight on her second full-length, THE GOLDEN ECHO, which saw her collaborate with artists such as Thundercat, MUSE’s Matt Bellamy and John Legend, a testament to her eclectic musical style.

Then 2016 saw her perform with The Roots and David Byrne at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, in tribute of David Bowie.

Two-time GRAMMY Award-winning, critically acclaimed New Zealand songstress Kimbra has moved the release of her third studio album, PRIMAL HEART, to April the 20th, 2018.

The album was originally due to be released on January 19th, 2018, with Kimbra explaining in a personal statement to fans, “Releasing an album has got to be one of the most exciting yet emotionally exhausting endeavors I’ve ever known. It’s like building a relationship with someone you are growing to love. In the service of the long-term relationship I want you to build with this
album, plus a few final tweaks to make this music the very best it can be, I have decided to move the date to April 20th.”

Kimbra has dropped her new single ‘Human’ and also shared the official video, shot in Auckland and directed by New Zealander, Gregor Nicholas. The video shows the singer as she faces her clone in striking black and white. Kimbra states “I think of the clone in this video as a part of me, manifesting in order for me to make some kind of peace and seek connection through a shared experience.”
