HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, today announces that Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6.1 are the latest Nokia smartphones to join the Android 10 roll out.

This means that four Nokia smartphones in New Zealand have received the latest Android OS since its official launch – delivering on the promised roll-out timings and more importantly the commitment to keeping Nokia
smartphones secure and up-to-date across the range.

Nokia smartphones maintain their position as leaders in fast OS updates and are once again at the forefront of the latest Android 10 deployment. Nokia smartphones are part of the Android One programme, launching with a promise of three years’ worth of guaranteed monthly security updates and two years of OS upgrades.

Android 10 is the second OS update for the devices, consolidating HMD Global’s commitment to Nokia phones getting better over time with consistent software upgrades and new features. As of today Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 9 PureView are all upgraded to Android 10.

Fans will get to experience a whole host of new features with Android 10, including Gesture Navigation where your control of your Nokia smartphone just got slicker, with faster and more intuitive controls at your fingertips.

Smart Reply will also be added so you can receive even smarter responses in messages, not just wording but actions you can take.

Your privacy is important to HMD Global, the new Privacy Controls give you even more control of your personal data all in one place, and control when your location is shared with your apps – be that always, just while in use, or never.

Focus mode enables you to block out distracting apps when you need to concentrate on what’s important (try it now in Beta) and last up is Family Link which has been added to the Digital Wellbeing settings, helping parents set digital ground rules for the whole family.

Game session hosting specialists GAMEYE today announced the results of Europe’s first real-world trial comparing online gaming performance across current and future-generation mobile networks exposing edge computing capabilities.

Known for their unique, scalable and innovative worldwide game session hosting solution, Gameye is a technology innovator giving game studios the power to deploy online game sessions closer to their players.
Working in collaboration with the global leader in the mobile edge movement, MobiledgeX, founded by Deutsche Telekom, Gameye ran Valve’s Counter Strike: Global Offensive and R8 Games’ Pacer on public cloud servers in Frankfurt and mobile edge servers distributed throughout the country, testing latency, packet loss and download speeds over the existing 4G / LTE and 5G networks.

As well-regarded and fast-paced player-versus-player titles, these titles were specifically selected for benchmarking the mobile networks’ performance. Gameye’s 5G Edge-optimised hosting solution deployed over the MobiledgeX Edge-Cloud platform aims to revolutionise competitive mobile games which demand stable, low-latency connections to achieve a fair and responsive experience for players in a competitive environment.

Gameye’s results reveal 5G stability far exceeded the current 4G network’s results with an improved level of consistency and stability, while using the mobile edge servers across the country unlocks a significant further latency reduction. Gameye’s specialists regard the 5G Edge performance as ‘perfect’ for online gaming.

With a predicted latency of around 8-12ms when 5G is fully deployed, this promises to make a marked improvement in response times and overall gameplay feel for online games using a 5G connection.

With Gameye’s multiplayer technology orchestrated by the MobiledgeX Edge-Cloud platform over the operator’s mobile edge infrastructure, Gameye will be at the forefront of next generation mobile gaming online. Giving players their smoothest, most responsive mobile multiplayer gaming experience yet.

Gameye’s tests suggest 5G can bring a promising future for home gaming too. During tests, the live 5G network was able to achieve download speeds of up to 800Mbps. At such speeds, a PlayStation 4 tethered to a 5G connection could potentially download Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s 148Gb of content in just over 26 minutes, greatly exceeding Europe’s current average internet speeds.

Gameye’s specialist team will attend the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco on 16th to the 20th March 2020, where they will be available to discuss the future of mobile gaming and their out-of-the-box solutions for mobile game developers working with 5G technology.
