Gen.G Esports have confirmed a major shake-up to their Marvel Rivals roster, releasing four players following the conclusion of the Ignite Mid Season Finals.

The announcement, made on 19 August, 2025, sees strategist Shin ‘Dotori’ Hyun-jong, vanguard Jung ‘FUNFUN’ Seung-hyun, and duellists Bae ‘KAIDIA’ Jung-hyun and Jung ‘Xzi’ Ki-hyo all depart from the gold and black.

Both FUNFUN and Dotori have already taken to social media to say they’re looking for new opportunities. As of now, only Choi ‘Brownie’ Min-gi, Sin ‘CHOPPA’ Jae-hyeon and Jung ‘Snake’ Rae-won remain with the team.

Gen.G’s Journey So Far

While the news marks a big change, Gen.G’s Marvel Rivals journey has been an eventful one since it officially entered the scene on 15 May, 2025.

Before that, the org had already tested the waters with an academy roster, finishing as runner-up at the Season 1: Eternal Night Falls Championship. After that run, Gen.G committed fully, pulling in four members of the original roster alongside three new signings from the title-winning squad Uprise, including FUNFUN, CHOPPA, and Brownie.

The new-look roster quickly made appearances in big events. Just days after forming, Gen.G competed at The Shroud Gauntlet on 17 May, finishing fifth after being knocked out 1–2 by Sentinels in the Lower Bracket Quarterfinals.

In Asia’s Ignite Stage 1, Gen.G pushed all the way to the grand final before falling just short against REJECT in a close 3–4 series. But their form dipped at the Mid Season Finals, where Gen.G became the first team eliminated after a 0–2 loss to ENVY in the Play-In Stage.

What’s Next for Gen.G?

Despite the rough showing, Gen.G have secured an invite to Ignite Stage 2 thanks to their Stage 1 performance. While exact dates haven’t been confirmed, the event is expected to run between September and October.

For now, the roster sits at three players, with no replacements announced. Whether Gen.G opts to rebuild around Brownie, CHOPPA, and Snake or looks to bring in fresh talent from outside remains to be seen.

Gen.G’s overhaul comes during a wider period of roster changes in Marvel Rivals. Sentinels recently parted ways with three of their own players, and even the reigning Ignite Mid Season Finals champions are searching for a new home after cutting ties with Rad EU.

One thing’s for sure: Stage 2 is already shaping up to look very different, and all eyes will be on which squads can rebuild fastest.

Sentinels have shaken things up in Marvel Rivals, parting ways with three of their players just months into the 2025 season.

The move comes shortly after the Ignite Mid Season Finals earlier this month, where the team struggled to replicate their earlier success.

The players leaving are Mark ‘Karova’ Kvashin, Ryan ‘Rymazing’ Bishop, and Anthony ‘Supergomez’ Gomez. All three joined the North American organisation only five months ago but confirmed on socials that they’re now moving on.

Sentinels’ strategist player Chassidy ‘aramori’ Kaye shared a heartfelt farewell to her departing teammates, saying:

“What a wonderful year we got to spend together, and we achieved so much. Farewell to my teammates, and good luck to my friends.”

Sentinels’ Run So Far

Sentinels only entered the Marvel Rivals esports scene on 3 March 2025, just a few months after the game’s launch. They made an instant splash by winning the very first Rivals Fight Night.

A few weeks later, they finished third at the Marvel Rivals Invitational 2025 in North America before really putting themselves on the map with a dominant run in Season 1: Eternal Night Falls. Sentinels swept 100 Thieves 4–0 in the grand finals to lift the championship.

Their biggest win to date came in Ignite Stage 1, where they edged out 100 Thieves again in a nail-biting 4–3 grand final to be crowned Americas champions.

But things took a downturn at the Mid Season Finals. Sentinels were knocked out early, falling 2–3 to Citadel Gaming (Brr Brr Patapim), the Stage 1 champions from EMEA, in the very first round of the lower bracket.

What’s Next?

Despite the roster shake-up, Sentinels are still locked in for Ignite Stage 2 later this year thanks to their Stage 1 performance. Dates haven’t been officially confirmed, but the event is expected to take place between September and October.

As it stands, the roster is down to just three players: aramori, Jacob ‘teki’ Lebel-Frenette, and Jimmy ‘nectar’ Lebel-Frenette. The team has yet to announce any replacements, though coach William ‘Crimzo’ Hernandez could potentially step in as he’s done before.

Sentinels aren’t the only ones shuffling rosters either. The Ignite Mid Season Finals champions recently announced that they’re parting ways with Rad EU and are now looking for a new organisation to call home.

One thing’s for sure, Stage 2 is shaping up to be another big turning point for the Marvel Rivals competitive scene.
