Prime Video announced that Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles will launch globally on October 24th 2023, in more than 240 countries.

The highly anticipated Australian Original documentary celebrates icons in entertainment The Wiggles, their enduring global success, and cultural impact spanning more than 30 years.

This is the improbable story of The Wiggles, four friends who recorded a one-off album of children’s music in the early ‘90s and changed the global music industry forever. Recognisable by their blue, red, yellow, and purple skivvies, Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Greg Page, and Jeff Fatt become an unlikely music phenomenon, equipped with early childhood teaching fundamentals and a dose of self-belief. Surmounting numerous rejections from industry producers, The Wiggles take their career into their own hands and become the most successful children’s act of all time.

In September 2022 Amazon announced an all-new Alexa experience for families in New Zealand and Australia.

Amazon Kids on Alexa is available on Echo smart speakers and Echo Show devices and has been designed to help kids learn, play and grow, while being entertained at home.

The experience will allow kids 12 years and under to discover fun, child-directed content with Alexa, from sing-alongs with Amazon Music, to playing games, and telling jokes, while ensuring parents can fully manage and control the experience.

We have a virtual chat with Kate Gooden, Head of Alexa Products at Amazon about Amazon Kids.

Shane: Amazon Alexa has always offered up entertainment, by way or cheesy ‘Dad’ jokes, Alexa original songs and more. How does Alexa for Kids expand on that?

Kate: Since launching in 2018, we’ve worked really hard to create a personality for Alexa that is fun, friendly and fits seamlessly into Kiwi homes. That experience remains consistent across both the “grown up” and Kids versions of Alexa, but the key difference is parental controls and freshly-created kid-friendly content to give parents more comfort and control around how kids engage with Alexa. With the new Parental Dashboard, you can now manage your kids interactions with Alexa to ensure The Wiggles music isn’t being played at 6am, games are disabled for a period if your child needs some time out, and kids aren’t listening to music with lyrics you’d rather they weren’t singing along to.

We have great, kid-friendly content available including plenty of jokes, stories and silly songs. Another great feature is ABC Kids listen – a 24/7 radio station with music, stories and dedicated kids programming. Kinda like What Now? but for radio.

Shane: Alexa has previously and currently had suggestions for kids games, are we now seeing a virtual ‘zone’ just for the younger people in the household with Alexa for Kids?

Kate: As Alexa and voice have become part of our daily lives, kids have naturally seen those interactions and been curious to see what else Alexa can do. Fart jokes are one of our most popular pieces of content and we’re pretty sure it’s not all adults asking for them! With Alexa often in a shared room in the home, customers have been telling us they wanted a kid-friendly Alexa option and we’re excited to have Amazon Kids on Alexa now available to fill that need. You can set up a dedicated device in “Kids Mode”; or set up a Child Profile, which means the Amazon Kids experience is automatically served when your child speaks to Alexa on your shared family devices.

Shane: Parental control is super important – had this always been in the works for Amazon smart devices?

Kate: Privacy and trust are foundational to the design of all our devices and services. Customers tell us they have Alexa in common areas of the home, so it’s crucial that we’re able to provide an experience that all members of the household are able to use in an appropriate way.

Our highest priorities with Alexa are protecting your privacy, keeping your information safe and providing you with transparency and control over your experience. Looking at how this comes to life in the Kids experience, Echo devices include multiple layers of privacy protection, from requiring verifiable parental consent to enable the Kids experience, to giving parents to view and delete their child’s voice recordings.

Shane: If a parent uses the same Alexa device as their children, can it be switched from Kid mode to adult mode easily?

Kate: Sure can! And the switch as simple as speaking to your device. Dynamic profile switching allows an (adult) Alexa account owner to set up profiles for each member of the family. When you set up a Child profile, Alexa will switch to Kids Mode when it recognises a child’s voice, then switch back to the regular Alexa experience when it recognises an adult.

Shane: With the Amazon Echo Show 15, Amazon introduced facial recognition – will this work and recognise if there is a kid present instead of an adult when commands are voiced?

Kate: Visual ID was designed to deliver a personalised screen-based experience for different members of the family when devices sit in shared areas like the kitchen or living room. It’s up to parents whether they choose to have a Visual ID profile for their kids, or just stick with the voice option.

If parents do choose to set up a Visual ID, on an Echo Show device (5, 8, 10, or 15), it will switch to Kids Mode when the camera cover is open and the child comes into view.

Shane: What else can we come to expect with Alexa for Kids in the future?

Kate: Kids love voice – it’s natural and for many of the younger ones – like my 7 and 10 year olds – voice and touch are their default options when it comes to interacting with technology.

Ultimately we want Alexa to be a fun way for kids to learn, play and grow. We have a great lineup of content with Kinderling, The Stolen Stars of Matariki, Nickelodeon and more, and our local editorial team will continue to create fresh jokes, stories, riddles, songs and fun Alexa responses for the Kids experience.

Over the last couple of years the way we live and work has changed for all of us.

Working from home sure has its benefits, but if you have kids it can get a little interesting. Huawei have the solution for you at a super low price point.

Having just released their MatePad T 10, the 9.7 inch tablet is a super kid friendly hub of goodness. And, if you don’t have kids – could be a cheaper alternative for you to go large for your media.

The HD touch screen is vivid enough, infact a bit better than I thought it would be. Side bezels though are super chunky – too big for my liking – but perfect for kids to hold the tablet without the potential of accidental touching the screen.

The MatePad T 10 is not high spec, except for the decent processor – Huawei’s own HUAWEI Kirin 710A.

Internal storage comes in at 32GB (with microSD slot) and with the low 2GB RAM on the review model that I have means that you’re not going to be able to play console quality games on it. However, this is not what it is intended for.

Huawei designed the MatePad T 10 as a family friendly media device, running Huawei’s own EMUI 10.1. And while this is based on a kernel version of Android, there are no Google Play Services.

But that’s not a setback at all. You can still get your Google bits working, via the Huawei (or third party) browser and save shortcuts on the Homescreen.

It’s form and function are perfect and the tablet is super light, only 450 grams.

Huawei App Gallery comes pre-installed and has a wealth of apps and games ready to go. Hundreds of thousands of them.

The camera’s come in at 5MP for the rear and 2MP for front. Low, yes, but enough for you to take snaps or video call without issue. Video can record in FHD (1920 x 1080) for the rear lens and HD (1280 x 720) front.

Huawei are the champs at personal mobile audio. Their audio products have been second to none and Huawei built the MatePad T 10 with dual speakers and their own Histen audio enhancer.

This can give you a 3D like listening experience (depending on the media you are playing) and up to 9.1 channel surround.

For a low cost, lower spec tablet – it’s got better audio than competitors tablets priced around the $2K range

As mentioned, the Huawei MatePad T 10 is built with smaller humans in mind. Huawei have added ‘Kids Corner’ which is a parental controlled mode that will safeguard your little humans against anything dubious and likely keep them entertained for hours.

On that – battery life.

Huawei added a massive power cell to their MatePad T 10 – 5100 mAh.

There is no wireless charging here, cabled only, but the life of the device from full to empty should give you around a couple of days.

My testing with the likes of streaming YouTube (via browser), Vimeo, streaming music to bluetooth earbuds and bluetooth speakers and game playing has gotten me to a little over two full days of near constant use.

In present day tablets can almost be a laptop replacement. The Huawei MatePad T 10 has enough functionality and surprisingly is not slowed down by its mid to low innards that you could easily manage your digital life on this, all the while giving it to the kids for a few hours of play.

It’s not a laptop replacement – but it will get you by if you don’t own a laptop.

This makes the Huawei MatePad T 10 a perfect all round solution for any family.

Riding high following their chart-topping triumph with an incredible cover of Tame Impala’s Elephant in triple j’s Hottest 100 last weekend, The Wiggles have today dropped a brand new single.

This time it is their interpretation of Lime Cordiale and Idris Elba’s Apple Crumble.

Anthony Field said today, ‘We are still so buzzed about the triple j Hottest 100 – it’s going to take us a while to get over that one!  Earlier last week we headed into the studio to record Apple Crumble – a song that also made the Hottest 100, coming in at #14 for Lime Cordiale and Idris Elba.  It’s another taste of what’s to come from the ReWiggled album!”

Both Apple Crumble and Elephant come from The Wiggles’ forthcoming album release, ReWiggled, set to drop on March 11 (ABC Music). ReWiggled sees the current Wiggles lineup join forces with the ‘OG Wiggles’ (Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt and Greg Page), and some very special musical friends, for an ambitious and expansive recording project. A double album, comprised of two distinct halves, ReWiggled celebrates both the enduring nature of The Wiggles’ songbook, and also The Wiggles’ own lifetime love of music.

When I get the chance to watch Dinosaur documentaries I jump on it. Not for myself, well kinda for myself, but for my kids.

My oldest has always gone bonkers for Dinos and they are always immensely interesting thanks to the information that keeps being discovered about these fascinating creatures. So a Blu-Ray pack with Prehistoric Park and March of the Dinosaurs in it?

Yes please.

March of the Dinosaurs is an interesting one. It is stylized as a film documentary in the way they are done now when you follow an animal in the wild.

In this case the main star is an Edmontosaurus named Scar as it makes its way 1000 miles south from their arctic birthplace as part of a migration. The other major player is Patch, who is a Troodon that stays up in the arctic as the nights get longer and he has to survive.

This style means it talks about a lot of specific events, such as trials the specific animals face. That means obviously a lot of creative liberties have to be made as these specific events quite clearly weren’t observed,  i.e., they don’t know the pack of Troodon attacked that Ankylosaur as it wound up upside down after trying to knock that last leaf off that tree.

I mean how could they have known how Patch almost got nabbed by that Prognathodon as he tried to cross the water amongst the Pachyrhinosaurus. They didn’t of course.

Instead what it does is it makes the show a lot more watchable for the kids. They can actually relate to the creatures and follow the story. We don’t need to know that one of the Edmontosaurus is dealing with a brain tumour making his behaviour more erratic, but it lets us relate a lot more.

We aren’t being told a bunch of facts, we are being taught a heap by observing dinosaurs the way we observe nature. It can be a bit slow at times but Stephen Fry’s amazing narration helps keep the film engaging.

Prehistoric Park is a different beast. It is a short TV series which is based on the idea that a conservation park has been made and they pull dinosaurs and other creatures like Wooly Mammoths through using time machines to observe them interacting together.

Nigel Marven is our presenter here and it gives a real Steve Irwin vibe about the situation. He explores around observing the creatures interacting and shows a surprising amount of excitement for the CGI creatures. Again there is a lot of fiction in this documentary, heck this one goes full sci-fi, yet there is heaps of value here.

By presenting the dinosaurs in the present you can picture how they lived a lot easier than hypotheticals. This makes the show way more engaging for kids and to be honest for me.

As a box set these two are a pretty damn entertaining watch. It is perfect for the slightly older kids and adults to enjoy alongside them. Originally released in 2007 and 2011 respectively, Prehistoric Park and March of the Dinosaurs show how much changed in the world of Dinosaurs with March of the Dinosaurs being after they discovered a lot more dinosaurs had feathers.

But minor things like that aside, it is a fun watch for the dino loving families out there.

According to “Turning Red” director Domee Shi, if you set a 13-year-old girl’s coming-of-age story in the early 2000s, it’s pretty much mandatory to include a boy band.

“We needed our character Mei to be obsessed with something that her mom would not approve of,” said Shi. “Boy bands were the first step into the world of boys for a lot of girls that age. The guys were all super pretty, polished, soft and loving, and they had of way of bringing girls and their besties together. Plus, I thought it’d be really cool to create an animated boy band.”

Enter Pixar’s first-ever boy band, 4*Town. Filmmakers called on GRAMMY winning singer-songwriters Billie Eilish and FINNEAS to write the fictional band’s songs – three in total, including the song “Nobody Like U” featured in the new trailer.

“When we first started talking about Billie Eilish and FINNEAS – back before they’d won a billion GRAMMYS – we could see then how they had their finger on the pulse,” said producer Lindsey Collins. “We were big fans. We met with them and pitched this crazy idea of a boy band, asking if they’d be interested in writing and producing the songs. They were!”

Eilish, whose sophomore album, “Happier Than Ever,” debuted at No. 1 in the Billboard 200 in the U.S. and in 19 countries worldwide, made history as the youngest artist to win in all the major categories at the 62nd GRAMMY Awards, receiving an award for best new artist, album of the year, record of the year, song of the year, and best pop vocal album.

FINNEAS, the youngest ever to win the GRAMMY for producer of the year (non-classical), built a sterling discography penning and producing smashes for a cadre of superstars, not only for his sister, Billie Eilish, but also Justin Bieber,  Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, Tove Lo, Kid Cudi and Ben Platt, among others. His debut solo album “Optimist” is out now.

GRAMMY, Oscar and Emmy winning Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson (“Black Panther,” “The Mandalorian”) is composing the score for “Turning Red.” “I’ve been a fan of his for a while,” said Shi. “We were drawn to his versatility, he’s a composer, but he also produces pop music. We knew he would help us create a very unique sound.”

Joining previously announced Rosalie Chiang and Sandra Oh, who lend their voices to Mei and her mother Ming, are Orion Lee as the voice of Mei’s dad, Jin, and Wai Ching Ho as the voice of Grandma. Mei’s tightknit group of friends are voiced by Ava Morse as Miriam, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Priya, and Hyein Park as Abby.

Tristan Allerick Chen voices classmate Tyler, and Addie Chandler lends his voice to Mei’s secret crush Devon. Providing the harmonious voices of the members of 4*Town are Jordan Fisher, Grayson Villanueva, Josh Levi, Topher Ngo and Finneas O’Connell. Rounding out the voice cast are James Hong, Lori Tan Chinn, Lillian Lim, Mia Tagano, Sherry Cola, Sasha Roiz and Lily Sanfelippo.

Disney and Pixar’s “Turning Red” introduces Mei Lee (voice of Rosalie Chiang), a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence.

Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming (voice of Sandra Oh), is never far from her daughter, an unfortunate reality for the teenager. And as if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS), she “poofs” into a giant red panda!

Directed by Academy Award winner Domee Shi (Pixar short “Bao”) and produced by Lindsey Collins “Turning Red” releases March 31, 2022.

Production on the live-action comedy “Hocus Pocus 2,” the haunting sequel to Disney’s Halloween cult classic, is underway in Rhode Island.

The Disney+ original film directed by Anne Fletcher (“Dumplin,’” “The Proposal”) will debut exclusively on Disney+ in 2022.

Bette Midler (“The First Wives Club,” “Beaches”), Sarah Jessica Parker (“Sex and the City,” “Divorce”), and Kathy Najimy (“Sister Act,” “Younger”) star as Winifred, Sarah, and Mary, the delightfully wicked Sanderson sisters who bewitched audiences in the 1993 film “Hocus Pocus.”

Doug Jones (“The Shape of Water,” “What We Do in the Shadows”) also returns as Billy Butcherson. Joining them are Whitney Peak (“Gossip Girl,” “Molly’s Game”) as Becca, Lilia Buckingham (“Dirt,” “Crown Lake”) as Cassie, and Belissa Escobedo (“American Horror Stories,” “The Baker and the Beauty”) as Izzy, three young women in present-day Salem who incite the wrath of the three witches.

It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters who were executed for practicing witchcraft, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to figure out how to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before midnight on All Hallow’s Eve.

“Hocus Pocus 2” is written by Jen D’Angelo (“Happy Together,” “Workaholics”) and produced by Lynn Harris (“King Richard,” “The Shallows”), with Adam Shankman (“Disenchanted,” “Hairspray”), Ralph Winter (“Hocus Pocus,” “X-Men” franchise) and David Kirschner (“Hocus Pocus,” “Chucky”) serving as executive producers.

Rounding out the cast are recent Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso,” “Game of Thrones”), Tony Hale (“Veep,” “Arrested Development”), Sam Richardson (“The Tomorrow War,” “Good Boys”), Juju Brener (“Vanquish”), Froy Gutierrez (“Teen Wolf”), Taylor Paige Henderson and Nina Kitchen.

Disney+ has just released the trailer for The Muppets’ first-ever Halloween special.

Starring in the special alongside fan-favourite Muppets, are Will Arnett (as The Ghost Host), Yvette Nicole Brown (as The Hearse Driver), Darren Criss (as The Caretaker), and Taraji P. Henson (as The Bride).

In “Muppets Haunted Mansion” the Great Gonzo – world famous daredevil artiste, has done it all, seen it all, and survived it all.

But on Halloween night, the fearless Gonzo takes on the greatest challenge of his life by spending one very daring night in the most grim grinning place on Earth …The Haunted Mansion.

“Muppets Haunted Mansion” will also feature special appearances from Chrissy Metz (as Harriet), Alfonso Ribeiro (as Fred), Edward Asner (as Claude), Jeannie Mai (as Maude), Danny Trejo (as Huet), Sasheer Zamata (as Mary), Craig Robinson (as Bust), Skai Jackson (as Bust), Pat Sajak (as Bust), Geoff Keighley (as Bust), Justina Machado (as Bust), John Stamos (as Himself) and Kim Irvine (as Haunted Mansion Maid).

The “Muppets Haunted Mansion” EP will be set for release on Friday, October 8 from Walt Disney Records and will include three new original songs titled “Rest in Peace,” “Life Hereafter” and “Tie the Knot Tango,” plus a cover of “Dancing in the Moonlight.”

“Muppets Haunted Mansion,” which premieres Friday, October 8, exclusively on Disney+.
