A classic icon is back but this time you won’t need to bedazzle it with stick-ons.

Motorola have released a very much updated Razr, a flip phone that is just as functional folded or unfolded.

The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra has a full cover screen coming in at 4 inches, where with swipes you can perform most tasks that you can when the smartphone is unfolded.

There’s even cover screen games.

Unfolded you’re looking at a 6.9 inch AMOLED with a 165Hz refresh and Dolby Vision. It’s sharp.

But there has been little attempt to ‘hide’ the center crease. It’s very visible both when the screen is on or off. But hey, we are talking about a foldable, right. Of course there’s a crease.

Motorola’s Razr Ultra 50 doesn’t only impress on its visuals, it brings the camera specs that knock out other foldables.

The internal (selfie) camera is 32MP with the rear seeing a dual 50MP set up. Most likely you’ll use the rear lenses more than the 32MP, as you can take Insta-worthy selfies with the phone folded.

There’s even a wrist flick gesture to open the camera app. This never worked for me though, and I can also imagine a few Motorola Razr 50 Ultra’s being flung across the room with this as well.

The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is also bringing sexy back, well, a sexy back – the lower half of the rear casing is vegan leather. Nice.

Spec wise, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra doesn’t disappoint.

Storage has you at 512GB coupled with 12GB RAM, but no RAM Booster.

Crunching the data is a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.

To get you through a day, well actually, more than a day, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra has a 4,000mAh battery packed in to it, with wireless charging.

Low, yes, but it somehow works and it seems to last longer than other flips.

Potentially this is due the front cover screen being fully functional and useable, so you’re not needing to unfold all of the time.

The front cover screen is truly where it’s at, Motorola have already added the bedazzling for you.

If there is any downside to the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra, it is the price point, being more expensive than any of its competitors.

A fun, pocketable smartphone that’s ready to go when you are and go everywhere with you. The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is what a flip / foldable phone should be.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023 was a big one.

Tab S9, Galaxy Watch 6 and the new Flips and Folds announced.

We received a Galaxy Z Flip5 just a bit before release to give it a run through.

Fundamentally the Galaxy Z Flip5 is the same as prior models. A clamshell Android smart phone that’s near-to all screen.

But why go halvies when you can have the full monty. The Galaxy Z Flip5’s front screen is now exactly that, a screen, fully covering the front cover of the device with a 3.4 inch Super AMOLED functional screen that enables to you to more effectively read notifications, activate the front camera (you know, for those all important quick selfies) and personalize the phone to you.

The front screen is a full view display for the front camera and now you don’t need to awkwardly ask strangers to take pic of you on the street, instead use the hands-free ‘FlexCam’.

Fold the Flip5 half way, place on a flat level surface with the front of the phone facing you and via gesture you can take those breath taking self-shots without needing to press a button. This also works with most social media apps too.

The main foldable Dynamic AMOLED screen is as vivid and crisp as ever coming in at 6.7 inches (2640 x 1080 px) and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. And yes there is a centre crease.

Visible when the screen is off, but not so much when you’re using the phone.

The Galaxy Z Flip5’s core processor has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2. The next generation of last year’s with a bit more speed and ideally better power consumption.

The internal memory of the new Flip5 starts at 256GB, which is the model we received at STG, but still the foldable is rocking 8GB RAM.

The RAM amount is likely to be enough for pretty much all users of the Galaxy Z Flip5, and if you’re a mobile gamer, generally this will be enough to play console quality titles.

I tried Asphalt, Diablo Immortal and a personal fav – Pascal’s Wager. All played without issue.

If you’re in the market for a Flip5, likely hardcore mobile gaming may not be your thing, and it’s the camera’s you’d be eyeing up.

The Galaxy Z Flip5 can record in 4K from the front and rear camera’s and you’ve got a 10MP front lens, and two 12MP (main and ultra wide) at the back.

Not quite as high in the pixel count as I was expecting for a new model – but it’s not all about the megapixels, it’s what you do with it. Right?

Samsung smart phones are notorious for excellent Nightography. Low light, or no light shots coming out almost as clear as day.

The Flip5 is no exception here. Asides from night time snapping the new foldable is a small photography powerhouse with its various modes and pixel perfect photo’s.

I’ve always considered Samsung to have one of the best proprietary video and photo editors built-in to their phones as well.

It’s here that I’ll make mention of a rebirth of classic video shooting mode.

Remember the days of camcorders?

The Galaxy Z Flip5, in a sense, mimics these by way of half opening the clamshell, holding the phone to one side and shooting your vid with the ‘viewfinder’ on one half of the screen and the record functions on the lower half.

Battery wise, the Flip5 has the same juice as last year ‘s model, coming in at 3700mAh.

Generally you’ll easily get through a moderately busy day of emailing, music streaming, web and social media browsing and selfie snapping, but I did find I needed to do a mid afternoon charge up when playing mobile games or shooting a bit of test video.

It would’ve been good to have seen the power-cell beefed up in this new model, but maybe this was a cost conscious decision by Samsung to keep the pocketable affordable.

The Flip models have always been a fav of mine. A fan of clamshell and all screen foldables, the Flip series has evolved over the years to become a productive, fashionable powerhouse that you can squish in to your pocket and go.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is currently the top of the flip side right now.

A foldie flip phone from OPPO, but where’s the centre crease?

A tiny pocket sized powerhouse the OPPO Find N2 Flip brings the best of OPPO’s ColorOS laden over top of Android with killer cameras and enough specs under the hood to get you playing, creating and snapping instantly.

Powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 9000+ processor coupled with a modest 8GB RAM, the model I am reviewing has 256GB storage.

When opened the very vivid 6.8 inch foldable AMOLED main screen has 120Hz refresh which is perfect for some serious (or retro) mobile gaming.

Folded OPPO added a front display screen, but not content with the landscape layout as we see in the ‘other’ flip phone, the Find N2 Flip has their 3.2 inch display in portrait next to the dual ‘selfie’ camera lenses.

Being in a portrait fit really does work and the screen itself is near-to a fully functional display.

Reply to messages, see your notifications in detail, control media and of course use the front screen as a view for those breath taking superstar selfies.

As for camera’s you’ve got an impressive 32MP at the front and the main rear cameras come in at 50MP for wide and 8MP ultra-wide.

OPPO have the goods when it comes to low light (or no light) photography. I have no clue how or where the camera system pulls light in from. The test night shots I took of an abandoned house on my block were in a near to pitch black environment, yet it looked as though I’d taken the snaps at sunset.

You’ll get a low 20x digital zoom. The camera becomes grainy on the main screen when you zoom to full tilt, however, the photo itself still comes out okay but a little bit pixel-laden.

What is missing though is something OPPO phones are known for – Macro. There’s no Macro mode and the additional photo modes tend to be limited to only a few. Video records in 4K.

Night time shot – OPPO Find N Flip

Using the OPPO Find N2 Flip as an everyday driver for a couple of weeks resulted in the small but mighty device never skip a beat.

The battery, a 4300 mAh powercell, was able to keep up getting me through my long days. Also needing a mention is that OPPO are the only major players that still include an A / C  adaptor with their handsets (and case too!).

So, what about that screen crease? OPPO’s marketing state their isn’t one there. To a point, they’re right – but it does have one.

When using the main screen you’re not going to see any fold lines whatsoever. The only time you’ll notice the lines is if the screen is off.

20x zoom – OPPO Find N Flip

The OPPO Find N2 Flip is an excellent smart phone and competitively priced so new adopters to the world of foldables can join in to the action.

But this is not without some compromises. There’s no wireless charging. To charge the device up you’ll need to go old school and plug it in. I also had a bit of trouble with the device’s bluetooth every now and then. Game controller and ear buds would randomly disconnect frequently. I suspect that this could e solved by a future OS update though.

The OPPO Find N2 Flip is a classy foldable, coming in two colour variations, a light purple or black .

Opting for that portrait screen on the front was an excellent design and functionality choice. I am hopeful for the series to continue and maybe add wireless charging in to the mix to make it that one perfect pocket sized smart phone.

If you’re looking for something fashionable, tiny yet big at the same time and a device that can keep up with you the OPPO Find N2 Flip would be the one.

Flip it, work it.

Just like the meditative body twisting past time, the Yoga C940 from Lenovo is super bendy being a 2 in 1 laptop tablet of high spec.

Built as an optimal workhorse the Yoga we received for this review is an Intel i7 10th Gen equipped 13 inch beast with 16GB RAM.

With internal storage on the generous side of medium coming in at 512GB SSD (460GB usable) the Yoga is built for the multitasker, the content creators and more.

A small form factor and slimmed down it is super light-weight and designed to be carried about.

The 14 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) adaptive touch screen flips back 180 turning the unit in to a tablet.

Windows 10 recognises the screen’s rotation and switches to tablet mode.

Media watching and even game playing (with a Xbox One controller) is best experienced in tablet view. I found myself placing the Yoga in an arched position (not completely flush when the screen is flipped back) in order to stand the laptop for tablet mode and play or consume media from a comfy chair.

Creative Suite applications such as Photoshop and Premier run flawlessly – the Yoga doesn’t break a sweat.

Multitasking like a pro sees zero hardware lag aswell.

Gaming… it does okay.

The Yoga is not built to be a gaming laptop – although the processor coupled with the RAM are enough to handle most modern PC titles, it is let down by the onboard Intel Iris Plus.

Simpler titles played well, but when it came to Gears 5, Borderlands 3 and the latest Tomb Raider the GC (Graphics Card) faltered any fluid play.

This said, Borderlands 2, LoL (League of Legends), Diablo III to name a few worked perfectly.

Even though Lenovo did not build the Yoga with serious PC gaming in mind – it is absolutely enough for the casual gamer and light eSports player.

The external ports options are a bit minuscule, I believe on purpose. Two USB-C (one is for power) and a single USB 3.0 for any external attachments, not forgetting the traditional 3.5mm Mic / headset socket which belts out top shelf Dolby Atmos enhanced audio.

Battery life is fantastic with the 60Wh internal.

I am able to get a full day and then some from the Yoga, using Spotify non-stop, Creative Suite for around 10 hours and various browsers.

On standby the Yoga lasted well over a week of being on with the laptop lid closed.

Small but mighty – the Yoga is a perfect all-rounder albeit at a pocket hurting price.

Introduced at the company’s First Look event, the Samsung Flip WM55H promotes more collaborative digital engagement by alleviating the most prominent challenges businesses face when organizing, facilitating and recapping meetings.

An upgrade on both standard paper flip charts and analog boards, the Samsung Flip display expands opportunities to generate game-changing ideas while maintaining the familiar feel of traditional writing. However, unlike its predecessors, Samsung Flip allows easy sharing, annotation, movement and even searching, as well as the ability for multiple users to create content at once. Additionally, the Flip’s portable, wheel-based stand transforms any location into a huddle room, meaning added flexibility to businesses with limited conference space. Finally, the Flip display’s intuitive interface was specifically designed to be user-friendly and allow for timely, uninterrupted conversation.
