Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment at Gamescom revealed that LEGO Dimensions, the upcoming entertainment experience that merges physical LEGO brick building with interactive console gameplay, will include unlockable Adventure Worlds that provide open-world environments for players to explore.

Separate from the game’s main story which takes players on a heroic journey through universes as varied as The Simpsons and Doctor Who in their quest to save the LEGO Multiverse, players will also be able to access fourteen distinct Adventure Worlds for each of the fan-favourite entertainment properties in the game.

Every character in LEGO Dimensions, including the three Starter Pack characters and any Expansion Pack character, has the ability to unlock the corresponding Adventure World of same brand to provide players with additional gameplay content that is based on that entertainment property.

Players will immediately have access to three unique Adventure Worlds based on DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, and The LEGO Movie.

Each of these Adventure Worlds can be unlocked by one of the three heroes from the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack: LEGO Batman can unlock the DC Comics Adventure World, LEGO Gandalf can unlock The Lord of the Rings Adventure World and Wyldstyle can unlock The LEGO Movie Adventure World.

Additionally, each of the remaining Adventure Worlds can be unlocked by any character from the same franchise available in the LEGO Dimensions Level Packs, Team Packs and Fun Packs.

In a new trailer (above) giving the first glimpse of the Adventure Worlds, X-PO (voiced by Joel McHale), the robot guide from LEGO Dimensions, shows off worlds full of beauty and mystery where players will be able to race, collect studs and gold bricks, and explore classic locations from the varied brands available in the game for even more adventure beyond the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment also revealed a Ghostbusters Level Pack with a LEGO Peter Venkman minifigure and Ghostbusters Fun Packs with LEGO Stay Puft and LEGO Slimer minifigures

Launching in New Zealand on September 30th, 2015, LEGO Dimensions will be available for Xbox One and the Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 and the Wii U system from Nintendo.

Interactive Entertainment has informed us that LEGO Dimensions, the upcoming entertainment experience that merges physical brick building with interactive console gameplay, will include gameplay from The Simpsons, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Portal, Jurassic World, Midway Arcade, LEGO Chima and Scooby Doo!

These fan favourite worlds, most of which have never before been in a LEGO videogame, will converge with the previously announced DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The LEGO Movie, The Wizard of Oz, LEGO Ninjago and Back to the Future worlds in one thrilling adventure playable with the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack.

For gamers that want to customise their LEGO Dimensions experience, Level Packs, Team Packs and Fun Packs based on these fourteen brands will provide new buildable characters, vehicles and gadgets, as well as compelling game content with mission-based levels and unique in-game abilities. All expansion packs will provide players the opportunity to use everything interchangeably, anywhere throughout the game.

It was also revealed in a new trailer that every LEGO vehicle and gadget can be physically built and then rebuilt twice for a total of three different objects that do entirely different things in the digital game for massive variety. Once players earn a building achievement, they will get in-game instructions that show them how to use the same physical LEGO bricks to rebuild vehicles and gadgets into different objects that provide all-new abilities.

For example, the LEGO vehicle bricks that come in the Starter Pack can be used to build the LEGO Batmobile that enables players to activate accelerator switches.

The Batmobile can be rebuilt and transformed into the LEGO Batblaster which adds Sonar Smash, a sonar gun that has the ability to break LEGO sonar bricks.  The vehicle can then be rebuilt again as the LEGO Sonic Batray which adds a special attack in the form of a missile barrage.  Players can fuse an upgraded vehicle to the LEGO Toy Tag, enabling them to take it and any new abilities with them to a friend’s game or wherever they’d like to play. Players can do this with every vehicle and every gadget from every pack.

Launching September 30th, 2015, LEGO Dimensions will be available for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 and the Wii U.

Merging physical LEGO brick building with interactive console gameplay in a manner only imaginable in the world of LEGO games.

Launching in Australia on September 28th, 2015, the game will fuse many fan-favourite universes together, including DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The LEGO Movie, The Wizard of Oz, LEGO Ninjago, Back to the Future, and many more still to be announced.

LEGO Dimensions, developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, will be available for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 aswell as the Wii U.

For the first time in any LEGO videogame, characters from iconic entertainment franchises join forces and battle in worlds outside of their own.

In addition to the game, the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack will include the LEGO Toy Pad, which allows players to transport special LEGO minifigures and other LEGO objects into the game, bricks to build the LEGO Gateway, three LEGO Minifigures, including LEGO Batman from DC Comics, LEGO Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings and Wyldstyle from The LEGO Movie, plus the LEGO Batmobile.

In addition to the three minifigure heroes used to start the experience, LEGO Dimensions will allow gamers to customise their experience with additional expansion packs.  Highly collectible Level Packs, Team Packs and Fun Packs will provide new buildable characters, vehicles, tools and gadgets, as well as compelling game content with new mission-based levels and unique in-game abilities. 

All expansion packs will feature well-known properties and provide gamers the opportunity to use everything interchangeably, anywhere throughout the game – with no limitations. 

A small sample of packs available in 2015 include the Back to the Future Level Pack with a LEGO Marty McFly minifigure, a LEGO Ninjago Team Pack with Kai and Cole minifigures, three Ninjago Fun Packs with Jay, Nya and Zane minifigures, two DC Comics Fun Packs with Wonder Woman and Cyborg minifigures, three The Lord of the Rings Fun Packs with LEGO Gollum, LEGO Gimli and LEGO Legolas minifigures, four The LEGO Movie Fun packs with Emmet, Bad Cop, Benny and Unikitty characters, and a The Wizard of Oz Fun Pack with a LEGO Wicked Witch of the West minifigure. 

Additional packs to round out the 2015 assortment will be announced in the months leading to launch.  Further waves of expansion packs will be released regularly following the launch of the game and into 2016.

LEGO Dimensions not only offers a bridge between digital and physical LEGO play, but also introduces a digital system of play with great long-term value for LEGO gaming. 

One LEGO Toy Pad, LEGO Gateway and the videogame found in the initial Starter Pack will offer endless opportunities to customise a player’s experience for years to come.
