Counter-Strike 2’s latest community addition, Transit, has been removed from official matchmaking after sparking a wave of controversy involving a racial slur, crypto advertisements, and potential copyright violations. What started as an exciting new map quickly turned into one of the biggest embarrassments Valve has faced since CS2’s release.

The map, created by a team of four Russian and one Ukrainian developer, was added to the game on October 2 and pulled just two days later without warning. Initially, players noticed Transit had quietly disappeared from the rotation, leading to speculation online. Soon after, it’s confirmed that the map’s files included a racial slur hidden in its code, references to a real cryptocurrency project, and assets that might have breached copyright.

If you missed it, Valve had just refreshed the game earlier this month with new content and visual updates, introducing four new maps and a handful of gameplay tweaks in the CS2 October Update Adds Four New Maps, Fresh Cosmetics and Gameplay Tweaks. The addition of Transit was part of that same wave of community-driven content, which now makes its removal even more surprising.

The racial slur hidden in the code

According to reports, one of the map’s Easter eggs involved collecting missing-cat posters scattered around the environment. Completing the challenge triggered a hidden script named “N*a_cat”**, a reference buried in the map’s logic files that players could only see using console commands.

One of the map’s creators, Maxim “Rikuda”, later admitted responsibility, explaining that the name came from a meme he had used jokingly while developing the map. “It was a stupid mistake,” he said on Telegram. “I forgot to rename it before release. It wasn’t meant to offend anyone, but it’s still my fault.”

Rikuda also claimed Valve didn’t contact the developers before pulling Transit, unlike other map makers who were recently asked to remove QR codes from their creations.

Copyright concerns and meme references

Beyond the naming controversy, players pointed out that Transit contained questionable visual assets. Posters on the map featured a cat strongly resembling the main character from the hit indie game Stray, raising copyright concerns.

Meanwhile, one building appeared to parody the lair of Dr. Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb, further muddying the waters.

Developer g3om, another member of the team, publicly distanced himself from the incident, telling CS2 UA that the project “included many inappropriate references” added by others. “Now I know for sure that you shouldn’t work with just anyone,” he said.

Hidden crypto promotion

The scandal deepened when screenshots showed a building in Transit displaying the logo of an actual cryptocurrency project. While some claimed it was a meme coin from the Russian community, others, including Ozzny, noted that the coin existed and had real value. “Safe to say this one won’t be coming back,” he posted on X.

Valve has not commented on the crypto link, but fans quickly speculated that promoting even a “joke” coin crossed a line, especially in an official map pool.

Community reaction

Players flooded social media with disbelief, memes, and disappointment. Some mocked the situation:

“Bro, it’s 2025. You’re telling me shady crypto projects, Ponzi schemes, and racial slurs aren’t okay? I thought this was America,” joked one user.

Others criticised Valve for a lack of oversight:

“This €16 billion company just uploads maps from the Workshop without checking them.”

Meanwhile, fans who enjoyed the map’s gameplay were simply frustrated. “Nooo, I had loads of fun playing this map,” one player wrote. “Just change the name and bring it back.”

A lesson for Valve and the community

Despite the chaos, Transit was well-received from a gameplay standpoint. Many praised its urban Vietnamese setting and the unique mechanic of a moving train that could kill players mid-round. But the controversy overshadowed all that.

The Transit incident highlights the risks of integrating community-made content too quickly. While Valve’s Workshop program helps new creators shine, this scandal shows the need for tighter review before maps are pushed to the official servers.

For now, Transit remains available in the Steam Workshop, but it’s unlikely to return to matchmaking anytime soon. What could’ve been a standout community success will instead be remembered as one of the most controversial moments in Counter-Strike history.

Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev has officially parted ways from Natus Vincere “NAVI,” the Ukrainian group that helped define his era, after NINE memorable years together. Widely regarded as the Counter Strike GOAT, s1mple now embarks on a comeback journey few saw coming, joining BC.Game, a crypto casino-backed team ranked 67th in the world.

One of esport’s most legendary runs comes to an end with this surprising decision. In his stint with NAVI, S1mple established himself as the face of CS:GO by winning three HLTV #1 Player of the Year titles, more than 20 MVP awards, and a Major championship in 2021.

The Fall from the Throne

s1mple had not been a regular starter for NAVI since late 2023. He has been benched or on loan for the majority of the last two years, including his most recent stay with FaZe Clan at the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025. He showed fans why he’s still one of the best AWPers in the game despite some rust.

But FaZe chose not to retain him permanently, instead bringing back broky. After the Major, NAVI confirmed they received multiple transfer offers for s1mple, all of which were presented to him for review. The legend made his decision.

The Gamble

BC.Game is a far cry from NAVI’s prestige. The organisation, backed by a crypto casino, has recently made noise by signing players like nexa, CacaNito, and pr1metapz, but still lacks tier-1 recognition. In typical fashion, s1mple addressed that head-on in his X, formerly Twitter.

Wide eyed and ready to kick some human ass in a super cliched 1950’s America, during the time of the U.F.O. craze and hysteria.

You are lead by your leader POX who gives out the missions and orders from the safety of the mothership.

You see, along time ago this very alien race infused their own DNA in to primordial humans which saw the prehistoric man evolve at a rapid rate. But now Crypto’s own kind has a DNA problem and they need to harvest it from Earth’s population.

A 100% pure and uncorrupted strand in each and every person.

Destroy All Humans! has been lovingly and hilariously recreated from the original game that released in 2005 by Black Forest Games.

A fully open world from farmlands to small towns and beach side resorts, this remaster from THQ Nordic not only jetpacks Crypto 15 years in to the gaming future that is the present with Missions and Challenges as new additions.

As you get to grips with Crypto’s psychokinetic powers (including disguising as humans with HoloBob) and some of the most original weaponry in a game, a Zapper, Anal Probe, De-Constructor and more.

Even though you are obviously of a higher intellect than the silly humans – you are totally outnumbered. Earth also has a blundering mysterious agency called the Majestic, who investigate any extra-terrestrial activities on the planet. they tend to shoot and ask questions never.

From a downed U.F.O. (think Roswell in New Mexico, 1947) the Majestic do have some tech of their own that they reverse engineered. But it’s nothing compared to what you have.

Some Levels require you to command your ship – these are hell fun as you can go nuts blowing stuff up (just avoid the military’s missile arsenal).

Your ship has a fiery Death Ray and a Pulse Burst that if you time it right can deflect enemy firepower.

Both you and your ship have shields – both can be regenerated, but remember that you are still a biological being and death means that you’ll need to be re-cloned and start over.

Your weapons, abilities and spaceship can all be upgraded. At the end of each Level you will automatically visit POX’s Lab and depending on how many human brains you have extracted (and any in-game bonuses that you may have completed) are cashed in for tech and psychokinetic power enhancements.

There’s also different outfits for Crypto to be unlocked as you play through.

Tongue in cheek humour, alot of cliches and stereotyping Destroy All Humans! is a game I recommend playing through. And play through more than once, as each Level has a plethora of side objectives and challenges alongside the main Mission.

Destroy All Humans! is a completists dream as the developers have also added in bonus Challenge only Levels, that weren’t in the original.

Destroy All Humans! was a huge hit with me when it first released so when I first heard that it was being remade I was hopeful that it kept to the original. It did and it’s way better than I could have hoped for.

Well, one alien to be precise: Crypto-137, Warrior of the Furon Empire, has arrived to save his people by … uhm … extracting DNA from brains. Yours for example. Naturally, one can’t properly subdue inferior life forms without the extensive use of the Zap-O-Matic, the Disintegrator Ray and the notorious Anal Probe Gun. And if that ain’t enough, Crypto can always level everything he sees with his UFO’s heavy loadout.

Destroy All Humans! is in development for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s a complete remake of the 2005 cult-classic, using the mighty Unreal Engine 4 to give new and old fans the best-looking invasion of Earth ever and is being developed by THQ Nordic’s internal studio Black Forest Games in Germany and is scheduled to release in 2020, marking the 15th anniversary of the Destroy All Humans! series.
