Multi-platinum selling rock band Crowded House have announced their 2024 Australia and New Zealand – Gravity Stairs Tour – in support of the new album which will be released May 31, 2024 globally.

Their Gravity Stairs Tour kicks off November 9, 2024 in Wellington and wraps December 14, 2024 in Brisbane.

Produced by the band with Steven Schram (Paul Kelly, San Cisco), Gravity Stairs shows Crowded House’s current incarnation featuring Neil Finn, Nick Seymour, Mitchell Froom, Elroy Finn and Liam Finn.

Speaking about the album title Gravity Stairs, Neil says the name was inspired by an unnaturally heavy stone staircase near where Finn vacations. “The Gravity Stairs are symbolic of the struggle to ascend, acknowledging the opposing forces of weight on the mechanics of living. It’s an act of will every day.”

Crowded House have sold over 15 million records worldwide as well as earning a Brit Award, 13 Australian ARIA Awards, 3 Aotearoa Music Awards and an MTV VMA, the band have generated billions of streams, consistently sold-out tours on multiple continents and have been captivating audiences for nearly four decades. Originally founded by Neil Finn, Nick Seymour, and the late Paul Hester, the group’s self-titled debut in 1986 went platinum, uplifted by worldwide smashes “Something So Strong” and “Don’t Dream It’s Over” which has been covered by everyone from Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande to U2, among others.

In 1996, the group delivered a legendary performance to an audience of over 150,000 on the steps of the Sydney Opera House, beginning a hiatus that finished in the wake of Paul’s passing in 2005. Crowded House have unveiled the glorious surf video for their new single LOVE ISN’T HARD AT ALL.

The video is produced by Neil Finn, using surfing footage from legend Kelly Slater.

“Love Isn’t Hard At All and doesn’t Kelly Slater make it look easy.  The sentiments and energy of our song seemed perfectly in synch with the flow and focus of the Surfing world’s most gifted expressionist. Iconic band Crowded House reveal their brand-new single “Playing With Fire”.

The pop-rock anthem is the latest release from the band’s forthcoming seventh-studio album, Dreamers Are Waiting, out on June 4th, 2021 via EMI Music Australia. ‘Playing With Fire’ is accompanied by a Simon Mark Brown directed visual, which features a full-band performance set within a dream-like sequence.

“This song was formed out of a Crowded House jam, live in the studio but then evolved its character through many twists and turns during quarantine in 2020. ‘Playing With Fire’ carries within it the contradiction I often feel on joyous occasions, the presence of hope together with an impending sense of doom,” said Neil Finn.

Since having just completed a hugely successful tour of New Zealand earlier this year, Crowded House has continued to usher in a series of new music, including their recent single ‘To The Island,’ along with two remixed versions of the track – Both the Tame Impala and Unknown Mortal Orchestra remixes are set to appear on an upcoming 7’’ vinyl via the band’s D2c store, available for pre-order.

Iconic band CROWDED HOUSE have teamed up with fellow New Zealand rock band Unknown Mortal Orchestra to deliver a brand-new remix of their current single To The Island.

The To The Island Unknown Mortal Orchestra remix is accompanied by a psychedelic visualizer (above) and is also set to appear on a forthcoming 7” vinyl, along with the previously released To The Island Tame Impala remix, via the band’s D2C store.

“Another artist we in Crowded House greatly admire is fellow NZer Ruban Neilson (Unknown Mortal Orchestra). Ruban was willing and able when asked to dismantle our single ‘To The Island.’ His remix has reimagined our song with swagger and grit and some glam overtones…we think it’s transformed in a beautiful way,” said Neil Finn.

On remixing the track, Ruban Nielson of UMO said: “It’s a really lovely song and there is this cool slightly menacing glam stomp to it, so I ended up drawing more and more of that out until I was playing it really loud and distorting everything and it was really fun to do a variant like that. I think it goes without saying that it’s an honour but I’d feel like I missed the opportunity if I didn’t add that too.”

The ‘To The Island’ remixes come a month after having completed a hugely successful tour of New Zealand. To The Island is the second single to be lifted from the band’s forthcoming seventh studio album, Dreamers Are Waiting, set for release on June 4th, 2021 via EMI Music Australia.

Iconic band CROWDED HOUSE reveal a new single “To The Island” and announce their forthcoming album Dreamers Are Waiting will be available June 4th, 2021 from EMI Music Australia.

The video for “To The Island” can be seen above and was filmed at various locations including New Zealand, Los Angeles and Ireland with Neil Finn and Mark Simon Brown serving as directors.

The band also begin their “To The Island” tour in New Zealand March 4 with full itinerary listed below.   The tour and new music feature founding members Neil Finn and Nick Seymour along with producer and keyboardist Mitchell Froom, guitarist and singer Liam Finn and his younger brother, drummer Elroy Finn.

Finn explains, “I’ve always been afraid of just repeating the same formulas, and somehow this feels like a fresh and authentic way to re-approach Crowded House today with an awareness of all our history and where, how and why it began in the first place. The original band mentality and philosophy in still in there, especially with Mitchell now part of it again, working in a different way along with Nick and I.” At the same time Finn clearly treasures all the new energy and talent brought to the party by Liam and Elroy.

Following Neil Finn’s surprise star turn and an extremely successful world tour with Fleetwood Mac, Neil and Nick Seymour are energised and inspired to begin a new chapter in the Crowded House story. A new generation has grown up and connected with their songs and will now get to experience the band live as they perform legendary anthems from the bands 35-year career, along with fresh new music.

“We were fortunate to be recording in the studio right before lockdown and so began this album with band tracks recorded live in a room, all brimming with character and energy. We then spent our strangest year, 2020, at distance from each other but connecting daily, swapping files and making those tracks complete. Iconic band CROWDED HOUSE release their first new music in more than a decade with the debut of the single “Whatever You Want”.

The video for “Whatever You Want” stars the charismatic and hugely talented indie artist Mac DeMarco making his acting debut. Neil Finn said, “Waking up with the fear after last night’s revelry. We can all relate to that. Thanks to Mac for working through the pain and showing us redemption.”

In great news for their longtime loyal fans, the band also announced today that they will tour New Zealand in March 2021 on their “To The Island” tour.   The tour and new music feature founding members Neil Finn and Nick Seymour along with producer and keyboardist Mitchell Froom, guitarist and singer Liam Finn and drummer Elroy Finn.
