History was made in Beijing as the Honor of Kings World Championship Grand Final officially broke the Guinness World Record for the largest live attendance at an esports event. Held at China’s National Stadium, famously known as the Bird’s Nest, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, the event drew an astonishing 62,196 fans, setting a new benchmark for competitive gaming on the global stage.

Guinness World Record officials were present to verify the milestone in person, confirming that Honor of Kings has now claimed a record once held by Pro Evolution Soccer during its UEFA EURO 2016 fan event in Paris.

A Massive Crowd and a Massive Prize Pool

The Grand Final wasn’t just about record-breaking numbers. It also featured one of the biggest prize pools in mobile esports history, ¥70 million RMB (about $982,000 USD). The champions walked away with ¥20 million ($280,000), while the FMVP (Finals Most Valuable Player) earned exclusive in-game cosmetics, celebrating their standout performance.

The sold-out crowd was no surprise. On October 30, Tencent revealed that all tickets were gone within just 12 seconds of going on sale. Prices ranged from ¥488 ($69) for the grandstand seats to ¥2,088 ($293) for premium inner field spots, proving that the hype around Honor of Kings shows no signs of slowing down.

The Bird’s Nest Becomes a Beacon of Esports

Originally built for the 2008 Olympic Games, the Bird’s Nest has a capacity of 80,000 and has hosted some of the most iconic sporting moments in Chinese history. In esports, it’s also remembered as the stage for the League of Legends 2017 World Championship Final, an event that drew around 40,000 fans and featured the legendary Elder Dragon cinematic moment.

However, due to the elongated stage design and massive screen setup used for Honor of Kings, only about 75% of the venue’s full capacity was utilised. Even so, Tencent and TiMi Studios managed to fill more than 60,000 seats, making it the largest dedicated esports audience ever assembled.

All.Gamers Go Back-to-Back

The Grand Final itself was just as monumental as the crowd that witnessed it. Defending champions All.Gamers once again lifted the trophy, defeating Wolves Esports with a 4–2 victory to claim back-to-back titles.

Earlier this year, All.Gamers also took home the Honor of Kings World Champion title at the Esports World Cup in Saudi Arabia, solidifying their dominance in the mobile MOBA scene. Their latest win, in front of tens of thousands of roaring fans, marks a new era for both the team and the game.

A Landmark Weekend for Chinese Esports

China’s esports scene was thriving on all fronts this weekend. Alongside the Honor of Kings World Championship, the country also hosted two more major tournaments: the League of Legends Worlds 2025 Grand Final and Intel Extreme Masters Chengdu for Counter-Strike 2.

This convergence of high-profile competitions highlighted China’s growing influence as a global hub for esports, where massive audiences and cutting-edge production value are quickly becoming the standard.

Setting a New Global Standard

A bombshell has just dropped on Chinese Counter-Strike, and it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest scandals the region has ever seen. A whistleblower has come forward with explosive claims of a widespread CS2 match-fixing and cheating operation allegedly led by former pro Xu “somebody” Haowen and his cousin Chen Peng, known as “Mr. C.”

Boros Says He Was Approached

The drama kicked off when Former Falcons rifler Mohammad “BOROS” Malhas went public on Twitter, saying he was approached to fix matches while visiting China. BOROS claims he refused the offer and thanked fans for supporting him during that time. His tweet quickly spread, pulling in thousands of reactions and sparking a firestorm across the CS2 community.

Other Chinese figures soon backed his story, including Shuke Bai, who streamed evidence on Chinese platforms, claiming hardware-based cheats called “soft routers” were used to tilt matches. According to Bai, these weren’t isolated incidents, the cheats allegedly kept strong domestic teams like Tyloo and LVG out of major offline qualifiers, with betting profits being the real motive.

The Alleged Mastermind

Community investigators pieced together the accusations, pointing to Chen Peng, also referred to as C, as the ringleader. Peng is alleged to control multiple Chinese teams, including Wings Up and ATOX, with “somebody” acting as his right-hand man. Recordings, chat logs, and even a 23-minute call have reportedly surfaced, detailing attempts to pressure players into throwing matches.

The whistleblower didn’t mince words, calling the operation “the biggest tumour in CN CS2” and comparing it to the corruption scandals that rocked Chinese football.

Fallout for the Scene

For fans, this scandal is a gut punch. CNCS has been fighting for legitimacy on the global stage, and now its reputation is under fire. Many players, including BOROS, have spoken about the pressure of being lured into fixing, while others argue that Tyloo and LVG shouldn’t be lumped in with the scandal, saying they’ve been victims of this system rather than part of it.

The story doesn’t end here either. Fans will remember that controversy has already been swirling around Chinese Counter-Strike, including the drama surrounding Chinese CS2 star z4kr facing allegations of cheating and blackmail. Now, with this new match-fixing network exposed, the pressure on CNCS is heavier than ever.

What’s Next?

So far, ESL and other tournament organisers haven’t released official statements, but with multiple witnesses, recordings, and streams circulating online, the calls for investigations are growing louder. If the allegations prove true, this could lead to massive bans, organisational shake-ups, and yet another reckoning for the Chinese CS2 scene.

OPPO has announced it will be among the latest batch of device companies to support Google’s CameraX, the new Android Jetpack support library for camera app development.

Debuted yesterday, during a keynote at Google Developer Days China 2019 (GDD China 2019) in Shanghai, the capabilities powered by OPPO’s imaging technology and CameraX were demonstrated live through a Reno 10x Zoom handset. At the event, OPPO and Google also announced the full lineup of OPPO smartphones that will support the new solution.

There’s no denying that Huawei mobiles have redefined the smartphone generation.

Adding in technology, camera smarts that are beyond what we ever dreamed and keeping the pricing brutally competitive.

If you have embraced the Huawei revolution and are a current owner of any Huawei manufactured device that is running Android, you have no doubt been following the recent events that have been reported from the U.S.

Outside of the States, what does it all really mean? Especially for us down-under.

Are our beloved Huawei Android built super-phones, the new and shiny P30 Pro’s suddenly going to brick and cease working? Will local carriers cut our devices off?

No. Not at all.

Android is an open source operating system and is free to anyone to use it, fine tune it and reskin for any mobile device. Being that it is an open platform and freely available this has not only ensured that Android as a smartphone operating system (OS) has exploded and gained popularity since it was first introduced in 2008 but also been re-worked, explored and vastly improved.

Android is owned by Google, and Google’s headquarters are in North America, and this is where the problems lie.

The current U.S. President; Donald Trump has an escalating trade-war with China. Trump is wanting to place tariffs on China, China does not agree. Huawei are seemingly a casualty being that they are a Chinese company.

The States has lobbied other western nations (including New Zealand and Australia) to cease using Huawei technology, citing security flaws.

This has hastened the rollout of 5G networks across the nations. But this recent development is not about 5G networks, security  flaws and buggy software. It appears to be a volley within the U.S. vs. China trade-war.

Google’s hands are forced by new legislation that placed Huawei on a naughty list, called an ‘Entity List’ and this means any trading with Huawei in the U.S. is against the law. Other big U.S. based tech companies; Intel, Qualcomm, AMD and more that have worked closely with Huawei in improving our technology based experiences also have had to cut ties with Huawei, due to this new law. Even the mighty Microsoft will be impacted as they supply Windows operating systems to Huawei for their laptop range.

It is not because they have chosen too, nor is it that they have any concerns about the Chinese corporation. The law is the law.

What does this mean for the tech industry as a whole? It’s going to be a train-wreck and raise prices. Will Silicon Valley become Death Valley?

Potentially, yes.

Even Apple relies on Chinese manufacturers and has recently been in talks with Huawei about acquiring chips. If these large tech companies can no longer source or sell components to and from Huawei, or anywhere in China (as it looks as though this is where the trade-war is escalating to) they will need to gain the parts they need elsewhere, or produce themselves. This would be super costly and that increased cost would need to be offset by retail pricing. In short, us, the consumers would need to pay a premium for tech goodness.

The larger companies may also shift their H.Q.’s from the U.S. entirely.

At the time of writing this, The American Commerce Department set a 90 day reprieve to the ban on any trading with Huawei. This does not mean that the ban has been lifted fully. This is so that Google and other providers to Huawei technology, including their smartphones, can work out a way of either continuing support, future-roll out of updates and,as I am assuming is going to happen, probably time to raise a case and lobby the Trump Administration against the Huawei ban.

Excluding trade with Huawei is bad for business. Bad business means a bad economy. The ripple effect from the U.S. based decision is massive.

President Donald Trump has stated publicly that his current escalating trade-war with China is ‘good for his voters’ and being that he can be impulsive (Twitter rants), there is a hope that Congress may step in to U-Turn the ban and halt the overall escalation.

This is purely my own speculation and assumptions and I am not going to get in to the political side of this drama.

Whatever happens and how this plays out may set a precedent for how companies that rely on third party vendors will shape and secure their investments and relationships in the future.

Down-under we will see little affect, for now.

Your Huawei smart devices will continue to update and receive security updates. You will still be able to use the Google suite of applications including Gmail, Play Store and YouTube. Your current carrier will still operate and support your Huawei device.

In short, right now, nothing has changed.

Should I get a new Huawei phone? Sure, why not! Huawei rolled out 59 million P30 units this year alone – that is 59 million handsets that would require support from Google (and Huawei). With Android’s recent statement that claims they will continue to support all and any existing Huawei handsets, that new Huawei smartdevice you are thinking of getting or currently holding (possibly reading this on) will still get Google love.

Huawei have molded and evolved the Android operating system and has always worked closely with Google, even producing an OS slimmed down Google phone; the Nexus 6P back in 2015. From owning the mobile photography category, especially with their stunning other-wordly Leica lensed P30 Pro through to longer lasting mobile battery life and under-cutting on price point whilst out-spec’ing, a smartphone market without Huawei Android based phones could be likened to an Armageddon incident for the smartphone market.

Potentially the evolution of mobile smarts would be stunted and we would certainly see smart devices become more expensive than they already are.

I am hopeful that common sense and logic wins with this ‘trade-war’ as a whole, whatsmore that Huawei can rise up like their Phoenix-esque fan logo from themselves currently being kicked about as a political football.

If not, it could be dark times for the entire tech sector.

*UPDATE*

Since the writing of this article and as of this update, Huawei has been reinstated into the folds of Bluetooth, SD Association (microSD / mobile storage), and both WIFI and JEDEC (Global Standards for the Microelectronics Industry) organizations.

Microsoft has also announced it will continue its support of Huawei.

Microsoft’s online store has resumed selling Huawei laptops. Microsoft said in a statement that it has been evaluating the regulations, and will resume sales of its existing Huawei inventory on Microsoft Store.

“We have been evaluating, and will continue to respond to, the many business, technical, and regulatory complexities stemming from the recent addition of Huawei to the US Department of Commerce’s Export Administration Regulations Entity List,” says the company. “As a result, we are resuming the sale of existing inventory of Huawei devices at Microsoft Store.”

The Huawei MateBook X Pro is listed for $1,499 USD, the Huawei MateBook D for $999 USD and the Huawei MateBook 13 in Intel core i5 and core i7 versions for $999 USD and $1,299 USD.

“We remain committed to providing exceptional customer experiences,” Microsoft said. “Our initial evaluation of the US Department of Commerce’s decision on Huawei has indicated we may continue to offer Microsoft software updates to customers with Huawei devices.” This’s good news for anyone who owns or purchases a Huawei laptop.

As well, it’s said that Huawei will launch its new Windows laptop in July 2019 in U.S. territories and throughout Asia.

The Consumer Technology Association today announced the results of an independent audit confirming a record-breaking CES Asia 2018 with attendance numbers reaching the highest in show history.

Overall attendance at Asia’s premier tech event saw a 21 percent increase over 2017, setting a record of 46,748 attendees from 75 countries, regions and territories, including a record number of 1,439 media. Since its inception in 2015, CES Asia attendance has grown 63 percent. CES Asia 2019 will return to Shanghai, June 11th to the 13th, 2019.

“CES Asia 2018 was ground-breaking across all measures, shattering attendance records and showcasing cutting-edge technology solutions that will change our world for the better,” said Karen Chupka, EVP, CES. “The show serves as the epicenter for innovation in the Asian marketplace and beyond, with the latest in artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, smart home, vehicle tech and more. We expect CES Asia 2019 to be bigger and better than ever with global powerhouse brands, industry leaders and top media from around the world.” CES Asia 2018 hosted 529 exhibitors from across the globe, up 14 percent from last year’s show.

Miffy Chen, head of Alibaba A.I. Labs, kicked off day two by announcing TMall Genie AI Union to accompany its TMall Genie. She also announced the world’s first commercial Bluetooth mesh chip at a $1 USD price point. Chen emphasized the humanization, connectivity and ecological services of the TMall Genie intelligent personal assistant, AliGenie.

Lenovo presented an afternoon keynote focused on the future of mobility and 5G connectivity. Ablikim Ablimit, vice president for strategy and business development, China Geo, focused on the strategic vision of “Smart Lenovo, Serve China,” and four major business layouts of corporate transformation. Dr. Chang Cheng, vice president Lenovo Group, head of Lenovo China Mobile Business Unit discussed smart phone application technology breakthroughs, and how AI, blockchain and other new technology trends will drive the smart phone industry into the next era.

The CES Asia 2018 keynote series ended with China’s Powerful Startup Economy panel where executives from Horizon Robotics, Volcanics Venture, Baidu Capital and Touch Pal sat down to talk about the rapidly growing entrepreneurship scene in China and how it compares to other innovation hotbeds around the world.

A robust conference program focused on smart mobility, AR/VR and robotics painted a picture of cutting-edge technology that is uniting industries and furthering economic growth. Deloitte’s Simon Dixon led a discussion around the implementation of smart mobility in urban transportation, with a focus on how cyber systems could facilitate complete integration. Panel member, Evan Tahler of Voom, added his take on the role of airborne urban transport as the next logical step in solving the urban congestion issues, stating that by 2030 up to five billion people would be inhabiting urban centers.

The AR/VR Forecast panel highlighted that 2018 and 2019 will be critical years for AR/VR especially in the development of all-in one products and stressed how the Chinese market is at the forefront particularly in industrial application.

The Union of Content and Technology session focused on how content related industries are changed and influenced by technology evolutions. Emerging technologies including AI and big data are applied to content creation and help generate marketing and content distribution platforms.

CES Asia is one of the fastest growing tradeshows in Asia. The 2018 exhibit floor is 2.5 times larger than the inaugural 2015 show, featuring products from more than 500 global companies, including more than 100 startups, across more than 50,000 gross square meters.

The Best of CES Asia Award winners were announced on day two of CES Asia 2018. The program, presented by ZOL, a leading technology portal site in China, selects and highlights breakthrough products and technologies from AR/VR, vehicle tech to best of show. As well as its technology innovation capabilities, the institute will focus on technology pre-research, innovating on users’ needs, and aims to be at the frontier of industry insights.

Based in Shenzhen, China, OPPO has created research centres in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Japan (Yokohama), and the USA (Silicon Valley), which will produce cutting-edge research work in software, hardware, and mobile standards.

OPPO Research Institute has also announced a partnership with Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, establishing the OPPO-Stanford Collaboration Lab to explore Artificial Intelligence front-end technologies and application. Aside from AI, OPPO is collaborating on 5G with New York University, Beijing Technology University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) Standards Research Institute.

Ubisoft has announced that Might & Magic Heroes: Era of Chaos, a new licensed mobile game developed exclusively for China, will be published by Tencent, a leading provider of Internet value added services in China. Developed by Playcrab, a subsidiary of Ourpalm specialized in action and strategy games, this new mobile title will be released in May 2017 and available in China on iOS and Android stores.

The agreement with Tencent and Playcrab marks a significant step forward in Ubisoft’s mobile strategy in high growth markets. This partnership gives Ubisoft an opportunity to leverage a cult brand to reach mobile players in China. Among its extensive publishing network, Tencent owns WeChat, and has the exclusive ability to distribute games to WeChat’s more than 889 million monthly active users. With its vast experience in developing action and RPG mobile games for Chinese players, Playcrab has an excellent track record of titles that top the charts on iOS and Android stores. According to analysts, the mobile gaming market in China generated over $10 billion in 2016. The mobile segment is growing rapidly and experts estimate that the overall gaming market in China may have already outgrown the US, formerly the world’s largest market.

The new mobile title features all the elements that contributed to the success of the series, including strategic PvP gameplay, fantastic creatures, and magic skills. In Might and Magic Heroes: Era of Chaos, Queen Catherine Ironfist embarks on a quest to unite her ravaged homeland and retake the kingdom of Erathia. While remaining faithful to the core tenets of Might and Magic Heroes, the battlefield has been transformed into an epic strategy card game, which is more suitable for mobile, and a passion for Chinese players.
